Truth Is: The Defense Is Horrible. Chud and Cam Are Regressing.

There was minimal pressure today. The tackles did a good job of keeping the ends on the corners most of the day. Cam didn't step up. He arm-threw most every play.

Well, I didn't see that game. The one I was watching had Suh pushing whoever was blocking him straight back into Cam almost every play and Vanden Bosch hitting Gross with the same shoulder dip or bull rush every play and coming within inches of grabbing Cam.

He didn't have a lot of time and they weren't sending many extra guys.

My problem is that instead of adjusting to that, either our play calling or target selection still favored developing routes. instead of taking advantage of short and intermediate routes to get the ball out early, we seemed to keep trying to go for huge gains. Bleh.

Yup, and just as I complained about in the Titans, we did not use nearly enough RB screens or flat routes until the 4th and they were extremely productive. And the smoke routes to Smitty don't count because they rarely work anymore.

Teams know we like to pass. Teams know we don't prefer, or like, to run. Teams know we like to pass it deep. They are playing that now. IIRC, their LBs were dropping 15 yards down the field at times and we didn't even have 15 yards to go... That is f*cking ridiculous, lol.

Cam teased some of us with his debut. Despite what anyone thought, hes a rookie. The kid is still very talented and with more experience he'll get a handle on the turnovers.

Chud did him little favors though. When we were still up, he called for long bombs down the field, why? DeAngleo and Stewart BEASTED the entire game, yet you feed your rookie to the wolves with a lead? I don't like Fox ball, but some of that is common sense.

Even when we were 1 point down with 12 minutes left in the 4th...more long bombs. That isn't smart football.

And the defense is horrible, so is the personnel (at large.)

Wow, everything I wanted to say in a lot more concise manner, lol.

Exactly, exactly, exactly DP...

I've said before, as much as we hated ultra conservative Foxball, it's as if we have went to the complete polar opposite to a fault... There is a happy medium in the middle.

Be aggressive. Take a commanding lead. Then help our QB and protect our sh*tty defense by running the ball and mixing in some of those dagger shots downfield - but run it and protect the lead and milk the clock... You know, kind of like the Lions did lol.

let's get real about this. real and painful about the facts. newton isn't as good as we think. he has a TON of talent around him and STILL can't win.

let's look at this:

3 pro-bowl targets (shockey, smith, olsen - yep olsen was selected as an alternate). check

2 great running backs who were called the two headed monster? check.

offense built around me? check?

still can't win, but points to the number 1 on my chest all the time? check.

if cam can't win with THIS offense, he would never last with dalton's talent black hole, or even The Golden Calf of Bristol's/

face it. newton has so much talent built around him that the panthers will be OVER the salary cap next year and have to jettison some. if he can't win now, forget later when he loses some of his safety net

    • Dude you're all over the place. Bryce definitely played better than average down the stretch last year. That's what I said. I dont think it's controversial, and I think it's true based both on stats and by actually watching him play. He was the 6th rated passer by PFF during the last 8 weeks. In no world is that below average You trying to twist this into something else is a you thing.  Have a great night
    • Exactly He's played two seasons and started 28 games. He's well beyond the point of being able to point to 2 or 3 games and being able to say, "THAT is the QB he is and will be in the future" Of course he can get there, but anyone trying to use just those couple of games to rank his place amongst the games QB's today and their full career's worth of playing at that level, is just asinine. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Daniels, Stafford, Goff, Geno, Purdy, Baker, Love, Dak, Tua, Kyler, Lawrence That's 17 QB's right there that have played better over their careers than Bryce has played at his best.  And I'm not saying they're all studs or guys I'd want to be our QB moving forward, Tua for example I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but his body of work is a million times better than Bryce's has been. It's also not including any of the other QB's drafted in 2023/2024 other than Daniels. So again, say you believe in Bryce, say you think he's going to prove he can and should be our QB of the future, that's all fair and totally fine. But nobody can say he's been an above average QB in his career thus far, it's just an asinine notion.
