Cam hasn't taken a step back

The rest of the league has caught up to him. He now has over half a season of game tape out there.

Opponents can study his strengths

Opponents can study his weaknesses

Opponents can study his tendencies

So lets stop this "cam is regressing" horse dung. Cam is not regressing. Despite defensive coordinators now game planning for him (by the way, who was the last Panthers QB a defense had to completely game plan around....I'll wait), Cam continues to put up the cheese and do more than enough to win games in this league (provided a Panthers defense that is actual NFL quality).

So the next time you hear about "Cam is regressing, Cam is losing it, etc" Just slap that idiot in the face and hope Pavlovian conditioning takes hold.

Love,

Zod

Only if you don't have much of a clue.

Twas a joke

Cam is experiencing a rookie speed bump. Most people won't admit this because he exceeded expectations so much that it was easy to forget he's still a rookie

And edit: you're pretty much right. I'll be concerned if we're still having problems countering a team's game plan for him a little more down the road this season.

Defensive coordinators game plan for all quarterbacks. Not all throw 4 interceptions in a game.

He hasn't regressed. We're just playing better defenses than we have played all year. And yesterday we played the best pass defense we played all year long. We lucky we got 3 turnovers and Stafford stunk it up too early in the game or it would have been a lot worse.

But unfortunately he hasn't gotten any better either. Still can't win a close 4th quarter game under pressure. 1-8 and it just keeps on counting. Maybe against Indy next week.

"how can you regress if you are not a very good QB? I mean really? He has 2 wins...so what he has thrown for 2900 yds, 12 TD, and an NFL record 9 rushing TD's! Andy Dalton is so much better because he has won 6 games. I mean in the NFL, its all about W's, and this game comes down to the play of only man, the QB!, derppa derp derp..."

I think the reality is that Cam's game was very simplistic and teams have "figured him out"/

I think the real issue affecting Cam AND why he was so successful early on wasn't about Cam.. it was about Steve Smith.

Teams are controlling Smith which is showing where Cam really is. Without Smith carrying him at this point he's nothing special.

Name an elite QB that hasn't thrown 4 picks at some point.

Name an elite QB that would not throw a pick against a loaded zone backfield and having to throw the ball 20+ yards because all hope is lost.

Honestly, I sometimes feel you try to come up with the worst posts possible.

I don't see any regression either, but good lord our D is horrible. You could feel that loss coming from mid-way through the 3rd Q. Our D seems to play decent in the first half and collapse in the 2nd, so I guess either they get too tired to keep up or the opposing O's are adjusting and our D isn't.

You might think that, but you would be wrong.

Cam is one of the most multi dimensional QB's to ever exist in the NFL. Simplistic? pfffft

    • For Bryce’s obvious shortcomings (bad pun), there is upside to his game. This isn’t being a homer or apologists, but I like to consider myself fair in criticism.  He’s far tougher than I ever thought he’d be. I really thought homie would have been broken in half by now. I don’t know how he’s not, but he’s not.  He is prone to turning the ball over early in games which digs a huge hole the team is not built to come back from, but dude DOES come up with crucial first down in crucial situations. It’s NEVER pretty, but he just kind of has the shining. He gets bailed out LOTS, and the team still loses games because of him, but he’s a bit of an enigma. He’s a turnover machine that is clutch in big moments.  He’s a smart/elusive cat. He kind of has to be with his limitations. His audibles are almost always correct and he understands coverages. I don’t see him getting fooled too frequently. His turnovers are almost never the ‘damnit Jake/Cam!’ brand we have been accustomed to. They are ALWAYS due to his size/strength limitations.  Strip sacks that shouldn’t be. Picks that happened because he just don’t got that NFL arm. He is still prone to panicking and the wheels can and do fall off at a much higher rate than his peers.  The team is winning on the backs of the defense, running game and special teams… but they’re winning, and unbelievably 1 game behind Tampa. As long as this is happening and Bryce doesn’t go full meltdown, Dave is going to keep him in. He is not getting pulled.
    • This was a terrible podcast. A bunch of uninformed homers that had worse takes than the bottom 10% of the Huddle. I listened to a handful of podcasts this past offseason in search of new Panthers material since John Ellis doesn't do his pod anymore and The 4 Man Rush don't either. Immediately deleted it after the handful I listened to. Truly terrible.
    • The NFC South was so bad it sent a team with a losing record to the Playoffs that year. Wilks had players playing hard at the end but let’s not act like that was a good season. That season hurts even more now that we see in hindsight how good our QB situation was. We just didn’t know it.
