Jim Caldwell

Jim Caldwell is one of the most decent and upstanding guys in football today. Even though he lost a lot at Wake, you won't find anyone in the athletic department there who has a negative thing to say about him as a person.

Hate to see all this happen to him. He isn't a good head coach (but then head coach in the NFL is an extremely elite position).

You hate to see what happen to him? Make millions of dollars doing nothing but stand in as a mute figurehead for 3 years? I'm sorry if my heart doesn't bleed for Caldwell.

Millions of dollars is completely irrelevant in whether I can have sympathy for a person. 1 dollar or 10 million will not affect me having sympathy for someone. He is a good man and a former Deac to boot. As far as him being a figurehead, unless you are a member of the Colts team or front office, you don't really know that.

Millions of dollars and position as a public figure are absolutely relevant in the degree of sympathy you have for a person facing public scrutiny.

And Caldwell may be a great guy, but he's a joke as head coach of a college or pro team. He didn't have to accept jobs that were completely over his head.

Caldwell was probably asking Cam if the Panthers had any spots open next year for a coach with his ability.

To which Cam replied, "What ability."

When it gets to 0-13, I look for Jimmy (Irsay) to let Jim Tressel take over the Colts. (Not saying he will do any better. esp when you have Curtis Painter at QB. The guy looks like he should have been signed to play THOR, not a NFL QB.)

They need to clean house. Fire Polian, Caldwell, etc.

I seriously feel for the Colts with the decision they're going to have to make this spring. No way they keep Manning and draft Luck, it's going to be one or the other.

How the hell was Jim Caldwell hired, anyway? I've had this conversation before and I think the answer was Dungy liked him. Weird, I almost think Manning just didn't want a coach with any influence.

Anyone know the answer to this? How the hell did a completely underqualified, failure of a third tier college coach with no personality rapidly ascend to professional head coach? It's weird.

Basically because they knew it didn't really matter who their coach was as long as Manning was at QB. Manning might as well be player/head coach in Indy. He's already QB/offensive coordinator.

Right, which makes me wonder if Manning is already the 2012-13 coach of the Colts. I mean, Caldwell is absurd and Manning's always been the guy.

Thats why I have been saying all season that Payton Manning should be the MVP. Nobody is as influential on his team as Payton. We saw what happened when Brady went down and they still won 10 games. If Rodgers went down, Matt Flynn would still get them at least a couple of wins. With Payton, the colts win the AFC South and have about 10-11 wins. Without him, they cant even get one.

This argument has been made all year and it's always stupid.

Peyton isn't MVP because this year he hasn't been valuable to his team. He would have been valuable to the colts if he was playing, but he would have been valuable to lots of teams if he played for them, but he didn't.

I mean you could make an argument for retroactively awarding him MVPs for past years (although he already has 4 of them) but this year? Don't be stupid.
