Shula Integral to Newton's success (article)

if cam is good then hes good. nobody can make u a star qb. its wheter he keeps working hard and studying film that will determine if hes great. and u cant teach in the heat of the moment decisions either.

I beg to differ, sir. If you don't think coaching has a LOT to do with the success of a player, you are crazy. Cam has the raw tools to PLAY at this level, but Shula is on the way to making Cam GREAT at this level. Anybody else, and I don't think we would be seeing what we have been seeing out of him. Cam has the work ethic, the raw skill, and the instincts, but coaching is what is making him great at looking guys off, going through his progressions quickly (he has gotten better with each game at this facet of the game), checking at the line (something I have seen a little more as the season has gone on), etc.

Coaching AND being a good student of the game is what makes stars. Take away either one of those and you have a mediocre player. Period.

I thought this was an excellent article that highlighted some of the more nuanced aspects of Shula's relationship with Cam and the QBs.

I also think Shula will do what he wants to do, but I firmly believe Cam and whatever offensive staff are here are going to be nose to the grindstone by default, maximizing the potential of whatever offense is installed that particular week.

One of the keys to being a good Head Coach is pickinq quallity coordinators and coaches.

Fox=fail

Rivera=success.

More like keeping good coordinators.

Fox had a good staff to start with that got cherry plucked till we had no one anyone else wanted.

Seems like the NFL is ready to do the same with Rivera. Hope he can figure a way to keep them.

I wasn't lying. I was listening to 610am going home around 6:30pm. It was breaking news, no if's about it. Posted this while driving. (I've got skills) It might have been NJP, but you never know.
He was most certainly contacted about it, but there's no evidence that an offer has been presented or accepted that I can find. Anyone would be hard pressed to find any strong support for this amongst the Gator fans. They seem to hate the idea. I don't think many of them are real excited about Muschamp either.

i agree to a certain point but you can only coach someone so far. im not saying he doesnt need a coach, just his future is in his hands at the end of the day. ive heard people say if r leaf and j russell would have went to pittsburg with better coaching and a winning "mentality" , they would be hall of famers.....

    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
