Cam Newton Postgame video

I love Cam like the rest of us but the end of that last drive was horrible. I dont know if he was him, the play calling , or both.... but it was 2nd and 5, 3rd and 5, then 4th and 5 and he pretty much threw it 20+ yards into the end zone everytime. I get the first one to Olsen, and ok maybe he could have hit Smitty then Nanee..... BUT at least on one of those downs - how about look for and throw it to somebody shorter to get the first down. That was the only time, except for that dumb ass first pick, that Cam kind of pissed me off. I think this is an area that he also needs to improve on, and maybe part of it is the play calling - but sometimes the Panthers need to work on just getting the 1st down..... and those little flat passes aint going to work every time nor throwing the ball deep.

Not much to say. Not too big on kicking a man when he's down when he clearly admits it. Big foot in his own mouth is enough punishment I think when it comes to the topic of his interview that he brushed off. But his attitude is horrible and needs adjustment or he just needs to stop doing post-game interviews. Or perhaps any interviews at all. Hope he learned his lesson and now really does start taking a look in the mirror instead of making comments like that. Best move would be an apology to the players and vets, which would go a long way, and it would be the first thing he should say if he wants to maintain support.

    • You keep mentioning the impact on the salary cap, but that's literally not the point with all these 2nd Rounders, it's all about precedent and it being a slippery slope that would lead to more fully guaranteed contracts for veterans. That's what the teams are making sure this doesn't get to, because yes, you're right, the guarantees for a 2nd rounder won't have significant cap implications if the player doesn't work out.  But you give that fully guaranteed 3-4 year contract to a FA who then shits the bed in year 1 and never regains the form that got them the contract, then yes, it's going to screw up your cap management and won't be a rounding error. And you can say it's a big leap to go from guaranteeing a 2nd round pick's contract to a big FA signing, but it's really not.  Once teams start giving them out, it's only going to keep growing and be insisted upon by agents in other situations and once the ball starts rolling down the hill, it's going to be impossible to stop it's momentum. Also, the only reason a 2nd rounder's contract would be a rounding error, is explicitly because contracts aren't guaranteed and teams can finagle the cap hits with various tactics.  Once contracts become more and more guaranteed, that won't be as easy to do, if even possible at all, and those individual rounding errors become serious problems in totality.
    • Yep!  Jake wanted to stay. It’s been reported a lot that he did. Tulsky waited too long to give him that contract.
    • He's still unsigned, due to injury I think. He should be able to play this year, but I think teams are just waiting for more clarity before signing him.
