How old should your kids be before you show them your gun collection

I have several guns. I have a 6 year old. I don't hunt, when I used to shoot it was just target stuff. Haven't fired my guns in a decade. They are locked up in a safe place. At what age would you show these guns to your son?

I was shooting with my grandad at around 8... my dad had a shotgun in the house, but up where it was out of reach for me. If there are guns in the house, I would teach them about guns and gun safety as soon as they were old enough to understand...

Esp the fact that they should never touch one without your permission... at your house or anywhere.

My kids are now 15 and 11 and they've shot several times with their grandad... but we don't have a gun in the house.

Here's my youngest shooting at the range this Thanksgiving...

Yep.

For me it was my dad and grandad out at the farm.

I'll never forget them both, as serious as cancer, telling me to never under any circumstances point a weapon at a person, unless you planned on using the weapon to end their life.

When you are 13, that sticks with you.

Now I'm a sissified suburbanite, but having enough of a midlife crisis to want to buy me up my dream weapons and go to the local club and reignite the testosterone fires.

Hey, its cheaper and safer than a mistress or a fast car.

I actually might be looking for something after the holidays so let me know.

OK. Two of them are family heirlooms but I have a Remington .22 rifle with an NRA medalion in the stock. It was a gift from the dad of a girl I used to date. He loved me more than her. Anyway, the gun has been in storage and has never been fired. Nice scope on it as well.

Really depends on the maturity of the kid.

Dad gave me my first rifle, when i was 4 yrs old.

The responsibility that goes along with guns, is a priority.

My 11 yr old son (adopted my wife's son) doesn't have the maturity even at 11, to have his own gun. at his age, it all goes in one ear, and out the other.

Will see how it is with my youngest, as he gets older. Luckily i still have at least another 3 years before even considering it.
