We need as much help on the D-line as possible

beason could never be "100% Beason" again.

but I do think that one game wasn't enough to judge this defense on.

Really I think we're gonna draft BPA, could end up being DL depending on how the chips fall but I think that CB, LB, and OL are bigger needs.

So why are you guys all over him?

I think you know exactly why. We ARE on a Carolina board, after all.

I wouldn't mind a boost to the d-line, but there's other holes on the d that are just as, if not more so, glaring. I dunno about taking any of the guys available for the d-line with a top 10 pick.

Melvin Ingram in the second round maybe? Grab Kirkpatrick in the first we just need some guys who can make some plays

I'd be highly surprised if Ingram makes it to the second. He's primed for a hybrid spot, and a team like New England will ****** him up before he ever makes it to day two.

If we could trade down to the lower end of the round and get him, along with some good picks for a top 10 pick we give up, then that would be nice.

Coples is overrated. Life long Unc fan and he is underwhelming to say the least. He is not bad against the run i'll give you that but he doesn't have the motor, moves, first step, you would want in a top De. I wouldn't be against adding some more talent at the position especially after today's showing , but the rest of the defense is so bad we won't be able to spend any picks on a D-end, they need to go else where.

There are no 'elite' D-lineman in this years draft that are worth drafting in the first round, Coples is overrated. We picked up 2 DT's in the draft last year and they didn't pan out. It'd suck to be in the same situation next year when we can probably get a very good corner (which we need). The way to build our D-line is thru free agency, and Ron Edwards will be back next season as well.

I'm still of the pipe dream that if Mario Williams becomes a free agent, Carolina should go after him, and we trade Greg Hardy for as much as he would bring in. (Maybe a 4th) Other than that, DE is quite fine for now.

Some of you amaze we are not signing Williams and if we did why the hell would you trade Hardy after that. He's a 6th rounder, so he's cheap and you won't be able to get comparable talent with that pick. That's trading a sure thing for a unknown. That also leads us with the same problem we have this yeah....ohhh ehhh, nevermind I just noticed who posted this. Carry on

Nvm I think I got you but I just disagree that injuries are the main reason this defense is so bad.

We have been yelling injuries for like 8 years, sorry it doesn't cut it anymore.

it's painfully obvious the defense is lacking personnel.. slice it how you want, but comparing problems with the past regime can hardly be laid at the feet of this one just yet..

Change the title to we need help in every area of the defense, up to and including the coaches.

Wouldn't it be great to get Del Rio back? I know there's not enough room on the sidelines for both he and Rivera, but it's still my dream.

(that, Connor Barth, and the dream about Kathy Ireland)

    • Absolutely. Despite the turnovers and the terrible slips we only gave up 17. If the offense could have mustered a single productive drive after the start of the game ...
    • I think Tepper (and owners in general) have  more influence on team personnel than most of us realize. Remember how Brenton "Sunshine" Berson was a roster lock when JR owned the team?  Frank Reich didn't want to draft Bryce, Tepper did. I remember him saying in an off-season meeting that the team wouldn't have to break the bank on WR's because of BY's processing ability and his ability to distribute the a ball to like a point guard to the skill position guys. Frank quickly realized it was almost hopeless situation. And, why are we running a 3-4 defense? We ran a 4-3 for almost two decades. One year after Tepper takes over, we went to a 3-4 and continue to do so despite never drafting the appropriate personnel to run it after Rivera was fired. Owners have a lot of say on what happens on that field. Look how Al Davis tried to ruin Marcus Allen's career essentially benching him during his prime years. Canales got this job because Tepper wanted someone who could "fix" Bryce; and Canales was overly eager to get his first coaching job and felt up to the task. No top coaching prospect was going to want to come to Carolina with our track record since Tepper bought the team and having their destiny tied to Bryce as his QB. A top GM candidate from outside the organization would feel the same way. In theory, it was too early to cut bait with him after only one season Dan and Dave knew one another and both wanted to be "the guy" in charge as coach and GM. Carolina provided the ideal opportunity. On the surface this hire, if successful, could validate Tepper's decision to give a fool's ransom for Bryce and he could fill the GM spot with a body but still have someone in power that he was familiar with. In all honesty, it we had a good QB and a capable back-up on the roster I doubt we'd be having this conversation because we'd probably be one of the top teams in the NFC.
    • Just reeks of bullshit. Good college QB but when you were watching him as an NFL prospect the physical limitations and playing style concerns were very obvious. Teams across the league almost certainly evaluated him as a backup QB prospect and the last thing you want out of a backup QB is a distraction. Strip away the media hype job, add in all the reports that Shedeur essentially completely blew off the pre-draft process and turned teams off essentially cementing what many already thought and nothing about his draft plummet was surprising. Watch the Browns draft room as the pick was announced. It's very obvious that wasn't their pick. The owner stepped on and said get me that press attention. Why would that have happened if there was a directive from the league not to draft him? It just doesn't pass the bullshit litmus test.
