Courtney Upshaw = Lamarr Woodley v2.0

i'd like him more if he were faster.

that lack of speed really bugs me.

i'm not one of these guys that thinks you have to have some kind of incredible 40 number to be good, but it's still important to be faster than what he's timing for playing the Will, imo...esp. if you are talking about taking him at the 8 or 9 spot.

He isn't made for Will.. he is made for SAM.

i been talking about them LB's from Bama since November. i been said that Upshaw is a monster and can play the SLB spot and blitz on 3rd or passing situations as well as Hightower.

I think Hightower is less diverse, and would have to play MLB, which means we'd have to move Beason.

not really a need but whatever.

so we move anderson over to Will? anderson and TD compete for the job there?

Anderson plays both will and sam, but I am one of those who thinks TD is done. I just don't think he will be the same player.. I don't think he will be able to be a starting calibur LB anymore.. he may be on the team as a backup, I suppose we will see.

didnt you say he is a Sam not a Will?he is at best playing near the LOS and coming after the QB. or playing the OLB in a 3-4.

I said Upshaw was a SAM. The strong side is lined up on the side of the TE to help against the run game. Upshaw excels in this area.. he also can get after the QB. Von Miller plays the SAM.

I love Upshaw for the record, I just don't think he fits here.

Yea, he may not fit here. I kind of want to force him to fit.. but not sure it's what Rivera is wanting to do. I think he is a hell of a football player.. and I think we could make a position for him, if Rivera wanted to. I just know he would:

#1 Help us generate pressure on QB (in turn helps the pass defense)

#2 Help our run defense tremedously

#3 Fills a need at (OLB)

When you can chip away at those 3 things with a single draft pick, then I think it is worthy of consideration by our FO. But like you said, he may not fit the scheme that Rivera wants to employ. I think Still would do both #1 and #2 and maybe just a couple other players. I hope we pick a player from the Bama defense.. they are extremely well coached and physically/mentally ready for the NFL.

    • Svechnikov and I'm voting cause I'm pissed.
    • He had games where he was a top 10 QB that week, vs Saints, Falcons, Eagles, Chiefs, Bucs.  Amazing performances that I think show what he can do consistently.  He must play with confidence to overcome physical limitations where someone like Cam can struggle all game and then win the game at the end by running someone over. Bryce won’t be that and I am fine with it, it’s time for us to move on to the new era. It’s been 5 long years.
    • We both know there's more that goes into batted passes than just the height of the QB. Most people here have readily acknowledged this and there were numerous discussions about it before we drafted Young. But if you are presenting a POV that Bryce's height hasn't tied to issues with his footwork then there's nothing anyone is going to be able to say to sway you and you know this. Even beyond the footwork I recall a redzone play where Bryce couldn't see around his right tackle at all where a receiver was waiting practically alone in the end zone for a touchdown. There are real world circumstances that are going to show up over the course of the upcoming season and it's up to Bryce and Dave Canales to make adjustments and do anything they can to mitigate negative instances and yes that begins with Bryce's footwork again. Thanks for your time. Have a nice weekend.
