Owning what you write

always easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

Bloggers who attempt to be reporters are a waste of time. Hell, reporters rarely stick to the facts anymore.

Give me the facts and keep your opinions to yourself. The reportee is entitled to opinion forming not the reporter.

Line from the movie "Contagion".

"Blogging isn't writing. It's graffiti with punctuation."

The only problem is that he still seems to believe the "caught cheating three times at Florida" unproven, unsourced rumor.

Which makes him exactly what he admits to being in this article, I guess... an idiot.

Hey, Klausner... stop believing every unsourced piece of mud slapped up against the wall in support of someone else's destructive agenda and you may not be an idiot quite as often.

The problem is that guys like Matt Ryan were declared the next big thing before he did anything to prove it. He had a decent rookie year and he was blown up by people in the media because he fit the mold of what they want a good QB to be.

Even after Cam's great rookie performance certain people like Narwocki want to put a slew of caveats by his achievements to diminish them instead of just saying "I screwed the pooch on this one."

Many of Cam's critics went from saying "He is going to struggle because the Panthers have no offensive weapons in the passing game and had no OTAs" to now trying to backtrack but save face by saying "Well Chudzinski is just a genius who made Derek Anderson a Pro Bowler" or "Their coaching staff really used Cam well" or "Wow he has sooooo many weapons no wonder he played well!!" Sometimes QBs can make offensive coordinators and teammates look like geniuses and pro-bowlers.

Anything to try and prevent themselves from giving the praise to Cam Newton who took the worst offense in the NFL and made them a top 5 offense (along with the help of a competent OC).

I don't remember the same caveats for Ryan, Bradford, Big Ben, or Manning in their rookie campaigns.

Let's take a look at Matt Ryan...

And now let's take a look at Cam Newton...

DIFFERENCE!!!

Yeah, cause we all know the only reason anyone ever says anything bad about Cam is because he's black. After all, saying something bad about Newton proves you must be racist

(I really wish people got just how stupid that idea really is) :nonod:

Are there people who dislike Newton because of his race? Sure.

Assuming that everyone who says something negative about him does so for that reason is just as ignorant and racist as those people are.

Why are you assuming that I am assuming "that everyone who says something negative about him does so for that reason"?

That's what I got out of your posting pics and saying "see the difference" (ie white vs black)

If that's not what you meant, you have my apology.

I think most did not have race as a basis for their opinion.

Many did.

The fact that the majority of the non-racist opinions were utterly ignorant and non-fact-based makes me feel not one whit of guilt to splatter them all with the same paint brush.

Poor draft analysis (poor football analysis in general, honestly) doesn't require racism.

THere were plenty of analysts who thought Ryan Leaf would be a better quarterback than Peyton Manning.

Likewise, there were guys who thought JaMarcus Russell would be a great quarterback and some who predicted Joe Montana would be a lousy one.

You don't have to be racist to be wrong.

(heck, I thought Pat White would be good) :(

I knew Cam would be great...(Nope. just wanted Teeray to spew coffee all over his laptop). I would still caution people to temper expectations. Cam hit the league by storm. If the defensive coordinators for Arizona, Green Bay, etc. (teams we played early) respected his passing ability, he would not have several 400 yard games.Ask Pittsburgh about The Golden Calf of Bristol and the "8 in the box" defense. Cam will face some innovative ways to stop him in 2012, which is why many young QBs who hit the league by storm suffer a sophomore slump. The Panthers are getting big in the rear view mirrors, y'all, and some great football minds will be hard at work figuring out ways to stop us.

DEAD HORSE: This is why I say we need to protect him. I think a LOT is the smart choice. Defense is a huge need, but they will be bringing it next year. Keep Cam safe should be our #1 priority. So much depends on Otah, but I think I know that he is done.

Sadly, many of you simply played follow the media and just bought into everything you heard and read. Others felt safe in hiding their personal baises behind every negative thing they heard about Cam.

Let's be real, it's not so much what he has done as it is not allowing him to prove himself. Cam was told that he was only given two options. He either proved that he can play QB on an elite level or be a bust.

Funny that the other QB, Bliane Gabbert, who always linked with Cam and was highly praised by folks like this sportswriter is going to be given EVERY chance to succeed before he's called a bust.

I see what you are saying, but there are a few problems with this.

First, you exercise "personal bias" when you accuse those of us who did not want Cam of "hiding" behind what writers were saying. I am not sure "Bias" is the correct word.

Going from memory, but I recently read an article that stated, "The success rate of QBs drafted in the first round was under 50%." We also know that there were real issues brought forward at the combine when he threw for 58% vs. no defense, no wind, and no clock. He had a few issues in his past that raised concerns about his character-Is Cam real, or is he being coached to smile and act a certain way like a girl in a child beaty contest? The system he ran in college....

Considering the fact that if you draft a QB that busts in the first round, it takes 2-3 years to overcome it, I do not expect the Panthers were not without "bias". Not considering these things is stupid.

As it turns out, we do not hide behind what writers tell us, but they are the way we get info. Imagine no writers commented on players. Include tv commentators, etc. You would know very little.

I would even say, in light of all that was feared about Cam, it would be bias if these things didn't matter or concern you. You would be ignoring facts and relying on emotion or personal feeling. Isn't that bias?

Of course Cam will have to prove himself again next year. Every player does. Give Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers 10 bad games in a row, and people will start questioning them.

That said, I expect Cam will continue to flourish. There is no valid reason for expecting anything else.
