Mock 2.0

I love the whole draft except Andre Branch. I like the position choice, but think there are better players. I'd rather take Chandler Jones or Vinny Curry.

I put it here for debate.

I know much less this year about players than I usually do. (having a fun team does that I have learned).

Mocks to me are more about concept than players.

I want to build the lines and get a couple of playmakers.

Thats what I was after.

If peeps think there are better prospects please bring them up.

Debate is the fun part of Mock drafts.

Like it all except I think we HAVE to go OLB with one of the high picks.

I agree completely with your sentiment of building up the lines, but we can't hope on Davis to come back 100%/Senn or Williams being that guy. With our attacking scheme, you have to have athletic LBers.

Beason and Anderson have proven themselves in that capacity. Senn (like Captain) has the heart of a lion and has a place on this team, but, for size reasons, should not be starting. And, Williams showed flashes, but nothing else.

LB and DT/CB/S are my top needs at this point. I could see the argument for either Line or Secondary in the 1st, but we need a LB with one of our first 2 picks.

LB needs like no one, I was fighting the urge to not even draft one.

Beason is a star, Anderson is good. TD will come back but he is an unknown.

We also have Jason Philips, who was highly touted coming out of college and buried in baltimore.

Several of our Lb's are RFA's and no one wants them. Senn and that thumper guy. We can make due at LB when we have pressing needs else where.

That is where I disagree good sir. LB is a place where we have lots of depth, but not much else. Can't count on Davis coming back and even Beason is a question mark.

Need a LB that can step in and play right away.

lack of DT strength makes LBs job harder.

if we can't count on beason (which we can) and we are worried about TD, aaaannnnddd we are weak in several other areas then it just makes sense to do something that will help make everyone's job easier so we can do more with less.

it all starts up front. that needs the focus right now.

I think after 1 injury is a bit too premature to write off Beason. I'd be fine if we didn't draft a LB at all. Like I said in another thread, I'd like us to sign Erin Henderson from Minnesota and that should really be all we need to do to the LB corps. In the 2nd I'd like Markelle Martin, Chase Minnifield, Alphonso Dennard, Stephon Gilmore (in that order), or Janoris Jenkins if he falls. If we don't get a CB in the 2nd, I'd love Cliff Harris in the 4th if he falls that far.

Don't get it. Rivera makes it a point to say he likes what we have at DT, but people have us taking DT first.

Our secondary was pathetic to the point Meeks got himself fired yet we'll do nothing to improve the position.

I don't think it's a final evaluation by any means.

there's a lot of film to watch between when he said that and the draft. Fua and McClain struggled way too much this year to not bring in help. We can't have mediocre interior pressure, and we can't just bank on both of them getting better with an elite pocket QB and a pocket QB that has had our number for the past 2 years in our division.

don't know much about branch, and I don't think pressure from the edges this year was a big problem (the only big problem with the DE position was Hardy's ability to contain the run), so I'm not fully convinced with drafting one in the 2nd if the value at CB is there, but I wouldn't be opposed to it either.

you can do anything well with a front four that is hard to stop. You can blitz better, you can play zone better, etc.

improving the dline IS helping the secondary

ffs we are back in crazyland

I was saying either line or secondary / or LB. Totally see the need for DLine help. Also see the need for secondary.

Just saying we need help at LB. Beason should come back fine (achilles injuries are tough but whatevs) but TDs spit is a ? for sure.

If we come out of the first two rounds with a monster DT/shutdown corner, and a starting quality LB, win for us. Just gotta have that LB.

We need a LB that can cover. TD was our best at that, but we can't count on him being the same player. Nobody else we have really excels at it, and with the way the league is trending, we'll keep getting eaten alive by TE's if we don't find a LB that can cover them (not to mention backs coming out of the backfield).

I like your picks, Kurb.

You're right, a good, consistent pass rush, improves everything.

I dare anybody to debate that we had a better secondary in 2003, than we do now.

I'd easily argue that we didn't even have one true starting quality cb on that team. Pass rush elevated their game.

The Panthers defense has to get better up front, or all the Cam majic in the world, isn't going to be enough to win the Panthers anything worth bragging about.

Back to Kurbs mock.... i like the needs you are addressing. We need a kick returner in a bad way.

We need drastic improvement from the interior dline.

Another mauler for the oline is music to my ears.
