Jake Delhomme May Retire

What did he do? Name one tangible accomplishment Delhomme has in his hat?

He was a great guy and one of my favs till the end, but he was a slightly above average QB that in the end hurt more than he helped (blame much of that on staff). You dont get statues for being a gamemanager who liked to throw jumpballs to #89.

He was, and always will be, the first QB to lead the Panthers to a Super Bowl. And his role in our getting there, and playing well, was not a minor one.

That said, I agree that fans in general tend to be too quick to go with the statue/retired jersey thing. Still, Jake does deserve to be honored. Retirning his number is too much. Statue/ring of honor is probably too much but I could possibly be talked into it.

If at some point the Panthers do an in house "history" room like some other teams have (and I hope they do) Delhomme should definitely be recognized there.

Cam is the best qb to ever put on a panther jersey. 1 season, 3 seasons, or 10 it doesn't matter. The single biggest turnaround for an offense in NFL history, and he set record after record. Saying Jake was good is like saying The Golden Calf of Bristol is good.

He should retire as a Panther...Nothing else is needed. Loved the guy but the retire jersey, statue talk is nonsense..That stuff is for All Pros, Super bowl MVP's etc, potential NFL Hall of Famers...Just because we haven't had any yet does not mean we HAVE to...

Delhomme is easily the most successful Panthers quarterback to date. Though in truth, it's a pretty small pool of candidates.

Newton is the most physically talented, but that hasn't translated to success yet. Likely will, but that's all still potential at this point.

A 6-10 rookie year and all the records in the world don't equal a Super Bowl season, not by a long shot. The only record that actually means jack is wins and losses. And a quick tip, Delhomme played a pretty big role in the panthers getting to (and nearly winning) that Super Bowl. He wasn't just along for the ride.

For Panther QBs, right now Delhomme is still the top dog. You might have an argument with Beuerlein, but not with Newton, not yet.

No, right now Delhomme is the best QB in Panther history. Sure, Cam should easily beat out Delhomme....but if Cam never played another snap.....what Delhomme did would poo all over Cam.
