Panthers want to know if Chudzinski is still a candidate for Bucs job

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are taking their time about hiring their next head coach, which means the candidates who are currently employed by other teams have put their offseasons in something of a holding pattern.

One candidate is Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, and that means the Panthers don’t know whether they’re going to have to be in the market for a new offensive coordinator in the weeks ahead. Panthers head coach Ron Rivera wishes he could find out already.

“Believe me, I’d love to know just so we can go forward,” Rivera told the Tampa Bay Times. “We’ve got a lot of things we have to do and we’ve kind of put [them] off during this whole period.”

There’s no reason for the Bucs to speed up the process just to placate the Panthers, but this situation does demonstrate how a team with a head-coaching vacancy can mess with the offseasons of other teams simply by stringing their assistants along. The Buccaneers have indicated that they won’t rush to hire a head coach, so Rivera and Chudzinski may not hear anything any time soon.

This is getting ridiculous, Bucs are fuging up our offseason.

The Disturber may possibly have actual sources?!?!

CHUD WATCH: Amid reports that former Green Bay coach Mike Sherman is a finalist for the Tampa Bay job, the buzz around Mobile is Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski will get a second interview with the Buccaneers.

Chudzinski is in Mobile with the rest of the Panthers' staff, but has been unavailable for comment.

Rivera indicated he would like some resolution on the status of Chudzinski, who also interviewed for head-coaching vacancies in Jacksonville and St. Louis.

"We've heard nothing. Hopefully, we'll hear something by the end of the week," Rivera said. "We do know, from what I hear, they've brought in somebody for a second interview. So we'll see what happens."

That is why we shouldnt have granted them permission to start with.

It is ok for coaches to want a promotion, and a franchise shouldnt stand in the way of that if they want to aquire the best talent, but that permission should only extend to teams that are not in our our division. Why would we want Chud to go to a division rival and give them our playbook?

There are 28 other teams that he could interview with.

How many times does this have to be said? You can't deny him permission to interview for a HC job. Jesus.

For the last time, teams CANNOT block coordinators for HC interviews. The whole "granting permission" to coordinators to interview for a HC vacancy is just a courtesy, not a requirement.

    • Completely agreed.  TBH, we have had so many great players that are in my favorite list, and I hate to narrow it down to one, but Cam is it.  Which is crazy, because you would think it would be more of the guys I grew up watching, but no.  Cam was the single most impactful player to ever out on a football uniform imo.  And like I said in an earlier post, I always felt a kinship with him in a lot of ways…  the way he was treated and judged for the off the field stuff in Florida and having to overcome all of that and fight show at back.  And although I am not a black man, I have always been welcomed by and accepted more by minorities, and thus, I know what it’s like to be judged by appearances rather than the content of your character and who you actually are.  I know what it’s like to be stereotyped and written off or mistreated for your mistakes.  I know what it’s like to be held to a different standard while your peers don’t have to meet that same standard.  So I always related to that.  And the way he came in and just electrified the whole franchise, man…  I still think about it often how much it sucks that because of how talented he was, our staff out so much on him and that ultimately cut his career short.  You’re right, there will never be another Cam…  I think Josh Allen is the closest thing we will see for a long time, but Allen is not the running threat Cam was.  Cam could run you over or around you.  That was THE absolute funnest time to watch our team ever.
    • It definitely needs more specificity than is baked in now.
    • The weirdest encounter I had with a pro athlete was waiting in line at security at Mile High Stadium when I used to get the company suite tickets almost every week because I was the only employee based in Colorado. There's a small checkpoint accessing the suites that virtually no one knows about that you can usually squirt right through. I was standing there and looked over my shoulder and there stands John fuging Elway waiting in line behind me.  This was during the The Golden Calf of Bristol season right before he became GM. I just said "They make YOU go through security?" He's like "Yeah, ain't that a bitch. I literally have a statue out front and I gotta go through security like everybody else." I've heard mixed things about him but he was super nice and down to earth with me that day.
