Could Brockers overtake Claiborne as the top D prospect in the draft?

I wondered when you would finally come out and admit this and instea of trying to carry the charade of objectivity.

The bottom line is that you're wrong. It isn't "hype." it's a player who superior talent rising to the top of teams draft boards. Your opinion that he isn't worth it is irrelevant, when anyone who matters feels differently.

Sorry, but it's truth. You're forgetting the context surrounding Brockers in this scenario always.

I'm not wrong about anything because these are all just opinions until any of them actually step on the field.

Who "matters" anyway? Kiper? McShay? I don't get your argument and I don't really care it's not a competition.

Claiborne > Brockers, on pretty much every single persons board.

I took a strengths test a while back, and my number one strength was context. It makes it frustrating dealing with people who have such a complete lack of it.

You sound like a tool.

so uh, what you're saying is that you've created a hypothetical situation where Brockers is above Claiborne on people's big boards, then crafted a scenario to show how he's likely to get taken before Claiborne given that hypothetical?

Kind of. I'm suggesting that if Brockers continues to raise his stock, which is almost a given, that I'm looking at the likelihood of each team that is ahead of us taking him-factoring in Claiborne and everyone else.

This post was never about Brockers vs. Claiborne as what's-his-face seemed to make it. It was merely looking at each team in relation to Brockers and how that could affect the Panthers draft board, which includes another key player falling (which is how Claiborne is related)

You guys are over-rating brockers, claiborne is a much better prospect and football player

Am I biased? Yes. I want the Panthers to draft Brockers. Do I feel that Claiborne in particular is a better player than Brockers? Yes, Claiborne plays two positions. Claiborne will not get past Tampa.

I strongly believe that we need to spend that pick on the Dline and I'll argue that till the end of April

Brockers just isn't THAT good. People here have a vastly overrated view of this guy based on our need at the position. He's not Suh. Hell, he's not even Gerald McCoy. Think Peria Jerry, who was a 1st rounder for the Falcons a few years back and can't even hold down a starting job.

Not saying Brockers can't be a good player, but he's far from the slam-dunk home run interior DL stud most on this site seem to think he is. Us having a need at DT doesn't make the available talent at the position better than they are.

Sites that have him going to us at 8/9 are doing so based on need, not because he's a legit top-10 talent.

I actually agree with the OP and it scares me to think that he could be taken before we have a chance to pull the trigger. You guys gotta remember that teams fall in love with physical specimen and it's not rare for those guys to be taken early. Gholston was taken in the top 5 for being a workout warrior. Positions play a part in this too. Just saying, never say never, you guys are too black or white when it comes to the draft.

Brockers is twice the prospect Jerry was. He plays a different kind of DT from Suh and McCoy, but while McCoy was more polished in college (played longer), Brockers has more upside than McCoy did in my opinion. And not every top 10 DT can be on Suh's level, he was the first of his level of potential coming out of college. He can still be worth the #8 or 9 and not be on Suh's level (if he was, he'd probably be taken #2...)

I'm just saying, Brockers has been given this label as this can't miss stud DT and he's just not. He's an average 1st round DT with some nice upside. I just think some people around here are labeling this guy as the next great DT without really knowing much about him.

From what I've seen - and granted, I'm no scout - I was underwhelmed by Brockers. That said, I trust Hurney in the 1st round so if he's our pick I'm good with that. But I still think he's overrated as a prospect around here because everyone wants there to be a stud DT ready for us to take at 8-9. He's a good player, but he's VERY raw and, as I said, I don't see his play on the field as justifying his reputation at this point.

My top-5 defensive players:

1. Janoris Jenkins

2. Morris Claiborne

3. Luke Kuechly

4. Dontari Poe

5. Courtney Upshaw

I think Hurney would actually trade up to make sure he got BROCKERS. I hate to keep saying this but, we haven't had a good d line since Kris Jenkins left.

If we plug that hole for years to come we can become a top tier defense. We can draft CBs all we want but a dominant defense is anchored by the line not the other way around.

If Hurney trades up, it damn sure better be for someone other than Brockers. He is in NO WAY worth trading away additional picks.

I could understand taking him at 8/9 if he has a great combine. No way could I fathom trading up for him.

    • I went to Canes games back in '04 & '05 when you were probably still a swimmer waiting to make your dad a father. There was no one there bc they sucked. Some of the lowest attendance in the NHL. As a Panthers fan coming off a SB season (03-04), I couldn't even believe they put a hockey team in Raleigh, and given the attendance, a lot of people speculated they would be relocated somewhere back up north where they would be supported and not "Mayberry." Seriously, educate youself.  That is reality. That being said, comparing that environment to 2024 Canes would be disingenuous. I was at PNC last year and know how great the current environment is. Comparing the current environment at BOA to 10 years ago is just as disingenuous.  Just bc you didn't witness how good BOA is when the Panthers are actually decent doesn't change reality. Seriously, surely you see that coming from such an elitist environment like the globally renowned world-class city of Raleigh, NC... I guarantee you if you went to a Canes game and a Panthers game in 2005, the difference would be unreal bc the Panthers were awesome and the Canes were (at the time) a moribund franchise. I have been in BOA when the whole stadium was rocking. You simply are young, don't know what you're talking about, but want to portray yourself as having knowledge about things you simply don't. You have a lot in common with modern day politicians and televangelists Like I said, Idiocracy has prevailed... Have a great day too!
    • Let it all out bro.   At the end of the day Charlotte fans just aren't that passionate as other fans. The Panthers and Hornets crowds are wack.    Go to a Canes game and you will understand this. Tell the family I said hi and Happy Father's Day.
    • Dude you have no idea what you're talking about. Best place to live?  LMAO... that's your criteria...  Charlotte gets put all over those lists too... come on man... and those lists have zero to do with sports. I'm done after this bc I'm punching down intellectually here... The Panthers have been bad for 6 years now. You are obviously young and not overly educated based off the "dunks" you're putting out there that certainly are, so let me educate you today on the Panthers. The Panthers sold out for well over a decade straight. BOA has been as good an environment as there is when the team is good.  Fan support for the Panthers has been incredible when the team has even remotely reciprocated. The idea that Charlotte doesn't support the Panthers is utter BS. People in Raleigh have the biggest little brother syndrome of all time... Nobody outside of the Triangle cares about any of your "vaunted" sports team outside of Duke-UNC in basketball on a national scale. Sure, the Canes are great. But nationally, the WWE dwarfs the NHL in ratings. More people care about Cody Rhodes than Sebastian Aho... or anyone else in the NHL for that matter... I doubt less than 5% of anyone in this state outside of Raleigh even knows who that is... that's a knock on Aho who is a great player, it's just the NHL barely makes a ripple in the overall hierarchy of American sports. It's not in the same universe as the NFL or NBA no matter how badly you want to tell yourself otherwise. Raleigh is not a big-time sports city, no matter how much you want to scream into the abyss about it. Neither is Charlotte. But no one here is making such a nonsense argument... LOL it's good to be young and to be ignorant enough to be confidently wrong... WTF are you even on this board though since Charlotte is so beneath you? There is an actual discussion board on this very site for Raleigh sports since they are so superior...  Maybe it's bc I'm watching Idiocracy with my son, but your timing is perfect, my man... The dumbest among us have become the most confidence in their ignorance... God Bless America!!
