Athleticism trumps weight DL prospects

It's worth noting that Hurney has always been a 'game tape' guy rather than a workout guy. This means that whoever we take will likely be someone who had good production/game tape in college. Brockers really doesn't fit that, IMO. He's a physical freak, but he doesn't really stand out on tape like you'd expect a top-10 prospect to and didn't put up stats that make you take notice.

Just throwing that out there... Hurney almost always tends to pick the player who has the best game tape rather than the player who looks the part or is more athletic or whatever the case may be.

If Brockers does well at the bench press and runs a decent 40, I don't think we'll have to worry, he'll be gone.

Brockers only did 19 reps during the bench press. In contrast, Memphis DT Dontari Poe did 44... and he's equally athletic, albeit much larger than Brockers.

If we're going to go DT, I'd MUCH rather trade down into the 20's and take Poe. Hell, at this point I honestly wouldn't mind taking him 9th overall. His stock appears to be rising quickly. He reminds me a lot of Haloti Ngata, TBH. Big space-eater who commands double teams, collapses the pocket, and would make Johnson/Hardy/Keiser's jobs a lot easier.

Plus, long-term if McClain develops the tandem of Poe + McClain reminds me a lot of the 'Williams wall' in Minnesota a few years back with one big monster run stuffer and one pass rusher/penetrator.

Plus, Poe was on a terrible Memphis team and had basically zero help and still managed to play his way into the 1st/2nd round, which shows that he can perform even when surrounded by inferior talent.

    • Svechnikov and I'm voting cause I'm pissed.
    • He had games where he was a top 10 QB that week, vs Saints, Falcons, Eagles, Chiefs, Bucs.  Amazing performances that I think show what he can do consistently.  He must play with confidence to overcome physical limitations where someone like Cam can struggle all game and then win the game at the end by running someone over. Bryce won’t be that and I am fine with it, it’s time for us to move on to the new era. It’s been 5 long years.
    • We both know there's more that goes into batted passes than just the height of the QB. Most people here have readily acknowledged this and there were numerous discussions about it before we drafted Young. But if you are presenting a POV that Bryce's height hasn't tied to issues with his footwork then there's nothing anyone is going to be able to say to sway you and you know this. Even beyond the footwork I recall a redzone play where Bryce couldn't see around his right tackle at all where a receiver was waiting practically alone in the end zone for a touchdown. There are real world circumstances that are going to show up over the course of the upcoming season and it's up to Bryce and Dave Canales to make adjustments and do anything they can to mitigate negative instances and yes that begins with Bryce's footwork again. Thanks for your time. Have a nice weekend.
