Mocking the Rams

So at #6, do the Rams sit tight?

Do they now try to move back up to #3 with Minny to get Kalil?

At 6, with Kalil gone, Blackmon most likely gone, which way do they go?

OT and WR were their biggest needs. Rieff? DeCastro? Floyd?

Or do they go DT, DE, or CB?

They are just outside the blue chip box, so now they have some work to do so as not to squander their first round choice.

Conventional wisdom says the 1st 5 picks go:

1. Indy Luck

2. Wash RGIII

3. Minny Kalil

4. Clev Blackmon

5. TB Claiborne

That leaves Rams with guys that all could be had a bit lower. Trade down might not be a bad scenario for them. If they stick, I think they go Rieff.

Trading back up with Minny might be too expensive as Minny needs the same things that St Louis needs and at 6 would be in the same boat having missed out on Kalil. I think the Rams have made their bed at 6.

I don't see them trading back up. If anything they might try to move down again.

They won't go DE. They have a former #2 overall pick in Chris Long and spent a 1st rounder on Robert Quinn just last year. James Hall is coming back for another year as well and has 16.5 sacks over the last two years.

DTs they have are somewhat decent, although they're really up there in age. They could definitely use some young talent but with the lack of value with the DTs at the #6 spot they'll most likely wait until next year or address it later in the draft.

A lot depends on what happens with Jason Smith. He's going to have to take a pay cut to stay and even then it's not 100% that they'll have faith in him. Also, depends a lot on what happens in free agency.

Assuming Kalil, Claiborne and Blackmon are all of the board I think they go with Reiff. Floyd would be in the discussion as well, especially if they can't land any of the top WRs in free agency. Richardson is probably a long shot.

    • BPA in draft all the way. Address your biggest needs in free agency.
    • Exactly.  You let him play out next season and continue to develop Thorton.  Jackson’s earned his next contract, but his age and the risk of tying up such a large portion of the payroll at one position leads me to believe that we’ll let him walk. In all likelihood, we’ll draft another CB, or two, and bring in some journeymen to fill the roster void, between now and the start of the 2027 season.  That’ll create more balance financially across the roster enabling us to invest in other areas.
    • As far as the NFCS … I think this division will be hotly contested the next couple of years.   I am tending to pay more respect to both Atlanta and the Saints n terms of how strong they will be moving forward, than not.    I am mixed on Ryan but think they have a decent roster to start with. I don’t think he blundered hiring Stefanski. And that offense can be dangerous with a QB. Plus, defense is arrow up. No 1st round pick, WB issues will dull their effectiveness. Question is, to what degree?   I think Moore is going to be a good HC and can overcome tape that people have on Shough. They need a lot but they were playing with people. Just the way you want to see all the way to the end.    Not sure about Tampa they have Mayfield but I don’t think they can maintain their success and Bowles is not going to last much longer. They have to go through all that. Gonna be tough once it starts. Might already have started.    For us I feel pretty good about Morgan. But less so about our offense, we have some short term RB and OL issues and those things are critical given what we are working with at QB.  Overall, mixed. Like a lot of what I see but some major question marks remain.
