Saints add OG Ben Grubbs

Recommended Posts

The New Orleans Saints allowed Carl Nicks, the No. 1 guard available, to hit the free agency market where he landed a five-year, $47.5 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

That's OK, though, as the Saints will replace him with Ben Grubbs, the No. 2 free agent guard. Grubbs comes from the Baltimore Ravens, who selected him their first-round pick in the 2007 NFL draft.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Grubbs will receive a five-year, $36 million deal that includes a $10 million signing bonus. That's about $11.5 million less than Nicks but Grubbs isn't that far behind Nicks talent-wise. This is a solid signing by the Saints when compared to Nicks' deal.

The Saints' adventurous offseason continues. From the bounty scandal to Drew Brees' franchise tag, it's been quite the offseason for New Orleans.

    • Names I'd keep an eye on... Coby White,  Jalen Suggs, Amen Thompson  and Stephen Castle...  3 teams except Orlando has checked on Melo before and rumblings of sours getting rid of fox too. I'd think they think Melo and Wemby would make them nuclear out west.
    • Well he somehow had 12 preseason carries for not playing. He also has 20 carries in the regular season, not three. He has actually played in about 7% of the offensive snaps for this regular season(33% of the special teams snaps). This isn't stuff you have to make up, these are very easily referenced statistics, man.
    • It's not common for a RB to recover from two ACL tears in the same knee. It's fairly rare. You are correct that it isn't the career ender that it used to be but there is also the fact that we appear to have largely moved on with the additions of Dowdle and Etienne.  Dobbins is a very good example. He has basically missed 54% of his career regular season games since he came into the league in 2020. It will end up being 57% at the conclusion of this season. It's a big contributing factor to why he is on this third NFL team in 6 years. It's certainly possible that may be 4 by the beginning of next season. I would say there is very little chance that Brooks ever contributes in any meaningful way in Carolina. Possibly with another team but I am extremely skeptical of his future here because of those injuries and because of the roster.
