Would You Draft Two Of The Same Position?

Say we took a CB/DT/DE with our first pick, would you be against drafting the same position in the second if some how a solid prospect fell? (much like Clayborn/Bowers going to Tampa).

Think of the options,

DE, Coples - Branch

DT, Brockers - Still

CB, Kirkpatrick - Jenkins

I would if it was versitile DE/U type guys, or LB's.

I guess it all depends on the situation but I find it unlikely that I would. Considering there are other needs that have to be addressed on the defensive side, I don't find much value in that.

i been thinking of that too. i wouldn't care and probably would love for us to take two DTs. but not drafting two CBs/DEs

If the guy's a talented player then yes, of course. Look, I believe that you should approach the draft one pick at a time. So you pick the best guy for you at 9 and let the rest unfold from there. If the best guy on your board in the 2nd round happens to play the same position, then woopdedoo, draft him anyway. It's better to get good football players than trying to get too cute. Apart from QB and RB and C, I don't really see any position where drafting 2 guys would start some sort of major controversy. 2 DT's? Great! 2 CB's? You can never have enough cover guys. 2 DE's? Look at the Giants! I'm fine with moves like these.

I think it depends on whether FO thinks they would be major contributor or not. 2nd DT/CB might be best player on our board FROM THIS DRAFT, but might not be able to beat out existing players. If they could, I say take them. If not, pick someone who will see the field this year.

If Brockers and Poe were both available? Absolutely. If Claiborne and Jenkins were both available? Probably. Barron and M. Martin? As long as it's not using our 1st round pick, sure. Coples and Ingram? Doubt it. No to any other same position pair.
