What Are Your Thoughts: Addressing Sts In The Draft

It looks like Hurney & Rivera are addressig STs in FA to some degree (thankfully!), but we need an impact player maker for both punt returns & kickoff returns. What are everybosy's thoughts on who, if any the Panthers should draft OR make a hard push for in high priority UDFA immediately after the draft.

My choice would be Joe Adams from Arkansas. Humor me here, but he reminds me of Smitty. He is a WR, but I think his 'immediate' impact would be at return man (he has some sick moves & great vision).

I think some people feel if a guy is physically talented, they can retrurn punts &/or kicks (for example, Hurney & Foxy thinking Edwards could be 'the man'), but the key is the vision. Adams didn't run an incredibly fast 40 at the combine, so he should be available in 5th or later.

What does everyone think (or do you think Armanti Edwards will improve enough for this not to matter)? Devon Wylie from Fresno State is interesting as well, he ran a 40 under 4.4 & has skills with returns. Not looking for high round picks for this, obviously.

Joe Adams has reportedly been gaining so much momentum going into the draft, he could be a 2nd-3rd round pick.

This. Would love to have him, but not before the 4th round, and he'll be long gone. If we had a 3rd round pick and he was there, I'd snap him up in a heartbeat. Guy is a lot like Smitty. Small of stature, but lightning quick and full of heart. As it stands now, I'm really interested in the AF2 dude we picked up and seeing if he makes a splash on punt returns.

My thoughts on him being gone before the 3rd is over is that WRs usually fall in the draft & he is not 1 of the top guys. His 4.55 40 yard dash & his size, 5-10 & under 190lbs. could bite him. If NFL decision-makers focus on his production, he may go by the 3rd, but honestly I doubt he will. Let me mention my high NFL scouting credentials at this point, about as good as a 3rd grade girl. :-)

adams would be awesome in the 4th if he falls to us but i would love to see what pilares and even edwards (if he's still on the team) can do with a solid unit that isn't 32nd in the league in blocking.

hell munnerlyn was a fantastic punt returner during his first two years in the league, second year in particular. if we can shift him back to nickel i'd be all for looking at him as PR.

I think we already have several punt returners including Edwards, Pilares, Hogan among others. If I wanted another one he would either have to be allworld or do something else as well. If Adams is the next Devin Hester, and I don't think he is, then bring him in. But if he would be a longshot to make the active team squad, then he is a wasted pick if it is any higher than a 5th rounder. After all we found both Gettis and Hardy in the sixth, they are big value picks for Hunrey.

Why would you think Edwards...scary drops & low production OR Pilares whose never returned a punt for us & was not good at it in college could fill that need?! Even Hogan has minimal objective proof that he could become weapon in that role?

    • I honestly just don’t think Canales was ready to handle all that goes into being a HC plus play calling (something he was still new to and not great at yet). Idzik will be brand new to it but that’s one of the main things he can focus on plus having a seasoned vet like Bevell should go a long way if they listen to him.  I think a big issue with Bryce will be the locker room seems to have really bought into him. However he plays he seems to have a good head on his shoulder and does well in a leadership role. If they do decide to replace him it will be an interesting thing for them to navigate. I’d assume most players know it’s just business and want to win above everything else.
    • Idk man…  this feels very targeted and measured.  I think one of them pissed someone off connected to some powerful media types and the person they pissed off had been sitting on this trove of evidence for awhile.  Now they start to leak it in intervals where everytime it seems it has lost steam - BAM!  Right back on the front page.  My instinct would say it was Russini, but she’s already been fired.  So, I think it’s someone who has an issue with Vrabel.  Whoever took those pics knew it was Vrabel, and even if they knew it wasn’t Russini, they knew it wasn’t Vrabel’s fault wife, and yet, they sat in them for 5 years?  And to go a step further, that last observation is a bit naive, because there are even people coming out now that are saying they knew Russini was sleeping with multiple coaches before all of this broke, so they knew.  I think this is about Vrabel. hmmm…  I wonder if this is Glazer bucking bc they set up that competing pool party?
