Cecil Newton, Jr. (born March 20, 1986) is an American football center who is currently a member of the Baltimore Ravens. He was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He played college football at Tennessee State. He is the son of Cecil Newton, Sr. and older brother of Cam Newton.

He has also been a member of the Hartford Colonials, New Orleans Saints, and Green Bay Packers.

Professional career

[edit]Jacksonville Jaguars

After going undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft, Newton was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent on April 26. He was waived during final cuts on September 5 and re-signed to the team's practice squad the following day. The Jaguars promoted Newton to the active roster on December 21.

[edit]Hartford Colonials

Newton was drafted by the Hartford Colonials with the 11th overall pick in the 2011 UFL Draft. After the Colonials' suspension of operations for the 2011 season, Newton's rights were acquired by the Omaha Nighthawks in a dispersal draft.

[edit]New Orleans Saints

On August 1, 2011, Newton signed with the New Orleans Saints, but was waived on September 3 and re-signed to the practice squad the next day. However, he was released from the practice squad on September 5.

[edit]Green Bay Packers

On October 13, 2011, Newton was signed to the Green Bay Packers' practice squad following injuries to starters Chad Clifton and Bryan Bulaga. He was released on October 23.

[edit]Baltimore Ravens

On November 28, 2011, Newton was signed to the Baltimore Ravens Practice Squad.[1]

Yes, a practice squad center taught him how to be an NFL QB?

Don't mean that he can't teach his bro, line adjustments and protections, His big brother is a Offense lineman, he might not have got a starting job, or made the final roster, but he has been coached by the the Packers, Saints and Ravens might have been only for a few weeks, but he still has an understanding of what to do, he might not be good enough to actually play, but whoever thought Wienke would be a good QB coach????

    • It would depend on how we lost... If we lose a bunch of 17-13 . 20-7 type games where the defense plays well and offensively Bryce is sh***TING the bed...then he wouldn't get fired.  If we are losing 40-9, 38-14 type games..then yeah it's a possibility.   Couple that with our tough schedule.. if we show well in lets say half those games.. win either Seattle or New England game, at least 1 win vs division oponents.. he's good.  So imo.. to get fired he needs to : Loose badly against the top tier teams ie Blown out Show no progress offensively from last year. Show an unwillingness to bench Bryce again if he is horrible over multiple games ..  Get swept by the Saints again.
    • I think he's gone, and rightfully so, if he turns in another losing record. The "talented roster," regardless of how true or not, is a double-edged sword. If the roster is so much improved now from 202X then why are you still producing losing seasons? On one hand, maybe that's what needs to happen. Have the GM hire the new coach, and then have the new coach pick his guy to run his system. That is typically how it works in the NFL. Not the forced inheritance deal we have had in place.
    • Hinging on Brooks to be our spark...be good if it happens... but not holding my breath....RB next draft. Morgan gambled...it would be a 2 year payoff if thing happened.
