Some Film Comments On Poe, Cox.

Watched multiple games of Fletcher Cox, and to be honest my feelings haven't changed too too much about him. He's a great athlete. Cox cont: lots of pass rush potential. He was so light in 2011, I know he's gotten bigger/stronger which is good. Got pushed around a LOT. Cox played 0, 1, 3, and 5 technique in 3 Gs. Looked best from the 5. Showed great ability to bend. Motor was good at times, great at others. Don't know if Cox is a Day 1 starter in NFL tho. Needs to improve technique (pad level/hands, etc). Needs to show he can hold up at POA, That being said - he shot gaps very well, showed ability to bend, and is a great talent overall. Definitely 1st Rounder to me.

Watched 3 games of Dontari Poe...first one against Miss State and he was AWFUL. Very tough to watch at points. On the ground a LOT. Poe's motor is almost non-existent. He doesn't play with a lot of urgency. He's caught off balance way too often, all that said, he has great feet, like GREAT feet. He runs the hoop well. Played more 5-Tech than I though he did and looked good off edge, I think Poe's far from a sure thing. He plays with decent pad level, has a couple of go-to moves as a pass rusher but is still very raw.

Yeah I wanted him at 1st but as you look at him closer there are a lot of negatives. I wouldn't mind him if we draft him because that means Hurney thinks he will work to harness his tremendous athleticism. All I want in the draft anymore is guys with work ethic that are good athletes I don't really care about the hype (whether College or Combine hype).

I said this last week: Poe will not go in the first round.

Oh he'll go in the first round alright. I wouldn't agree with that move but someone's gonna fall in love with his athleticism and take that big risk. He's just part of a long line of raw athletic freaks that will get selected in the first round.

I quite like this guy's analysis though. Cox may be the safest of all these top DT's. I would be happy with him with our first rounder.

    • You are right. At the same time I don’t think people are watching games going come on Bryce put it on the ground or sail it OB or whatever. They just have trouble seeing him turning his 3 or four or five top games of 2025 into the weekly standard outing. Which you expect for the kind of money he will ask for (speaking for myself anyway).
    • In terms of comparing Pickett and Young's arm talent it's basically a push at best. Pickett is sitting at 6.2 yards per pass attempt for his career while Bryce sits at 6.0 Last season Bryce was 6.3 in yards per pass attempt. Only Justin Fields Spencer Rattler (both 6.2) Kyler Murray (6.0) 41 year old Joe Flacco (6.0) 44 year old Phillip Rivers (5.9) rookie Cam Ward (5.9) and Tyrod Taylor (5.8) had less pass yards per attempt than Bryce Young in his third season as a starter. Folks going around acting as if it is beyond the pale to say Pickett might have a better arm than Young are living in an alternate reality. You can choose to not believe your own eyes after 46 games but everyone else will acknowledge reality and move forward accordingly.
    • Wayne Gretzky yesterday said he is playing as good a series as he has ever seen from a defender. I thought that was pretty high praise.
