1470111001052_Wake_Forest_at_Boston_College-420x280.jpg

Luke Kuechly, ILB, Boston College

Height: 6’3″

Weight: 237

Strengths: As instinctive as they come, makes almost every play on the field – Pursues the ball sideline to sideline and is a sound fundamental tackler – Rarely makes a mistake on the field and if he does makes up for it with his constant effort – Sound in pass coverage (played safety in HS) – Good lateral mobility – Keeps his eyes on the QB and truts his reads – Very good size for a middle linebacker – One of the smartest players in the country – Kuechly is like a coach on the field, knows everyones job – Future defensive playcaller and captain – Current team captain and leader.

Weaknesses: Not the best athlete – Can get fooled at times by misdirection – Needs to add 10-15 pounds to his frame -Questions about if he can handle playing inside at the next level.

ROUND 2: Brandon Boykin, CB, Georgia

Brandon Boykin, CB, Georgia

Height: 5’9 1/4″

Weight: 183

Hands: 9 3/8″ Arms: 31 1/2″

40: N/A Bench: N/A Vert: N/A Broad: N/A 3-Cone: N/A

Strengths: Explosive athletic player who has returned kicks, carried and caught the ball during his time at Georgia – Could be a plus return specialist, finds holes in return coverage and weaves through them seamlessly – Extremely physical player down at the Senior Bowl who showed he can play press coverage as well as anyone in this draft class – Plays well in zone coverage as well reading the quarterback and reacting quickly with agility and athleticism – Played out of the slot a lot and rarely thrown on – Has legit 4.4 speed – Can turn and run smoothly and has second gear against faster WRs – Showed some ability blitzing out of the slot, gets off the line quickly and generates nice pressure.

Weaknesses: Doesn’t always take the best angle, especially in the running game – small in stature at 5’9 1/4” 183 lbs, but has long arms and wingspan – Doesn’t always attack in the running game – Can improve his tackling – Can come off the snap from the slot with lazy technique, stays too high – Footwork can be raw at times – Not a real ballhawk, but showed off good hands on offense – Suffered leg injury at Senior Bowl.

Round 2:

DE Chandler Jones Scouting Report

]

Chandler-Jones-420x239.jpg

DE Chandler Jones-Syracuse

Height: 6’5

Weight: 251 lbs.

Strengths:

Has prototypical size for the position…has long arms and a good build…does a good job with his get off on the snap, it allowed him to get around the OT…he’s a passionate and unquestioned leader on the field…tackles well, making sure to wrap up the ball carrier…shows some nice power off his bull rush…has some decent hand coordination with both his punch power and placement…has a lot of potential thanks to the ability to grow into his frame and use his size…has plenty of pedigree as his one brother play DE for the Baltimor Ravens (Arthur Jones) and his other is the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion (Jon Jones).

Weaknesses:

Not quite sure why he left school early…extremely raw in terms of his fundamentals…can almost always be located on film because he plays so high…has a good first step but isn’t an explosive edge rusher…stiff hips with limit his scheme fit to a 43…does not work very well laterally down the line of in space…struggles to change direction and can be shook by ball carriers who are shifty…has the length to control the blocker at the POA with his arms but has not learned how to do that consistently…gives up his chest plate too easily…questions will linger around his knee injury.

Round 4:

Devon Wylie

Devon+Wylie+Fresno+State+v+Nebraska+fIIRfuR2r-il.jpg

Ht: 5’9″

Wt: 187 Strengths: Elite speed; a legitimate threat to stretch the field. A dangerous runner after the catch due to his speed. Impressive start-and-stop ability makes him tough to corral in the open field. Excellent vision when running in the open field. An explosive route runner; gets up to full speed quickly and is very quick and sharp in his breaks. Fairly reliable hands. Has experience lining up wide and in the slot. Experienced returning kicks and punts. Weaknesses: Can be too reckless when running with the football at times; puts his body on the line and will take some big hits and with his slight frame that could lead to injuries. Trusts his playmaking ability too much; will go backwards at times and make some poor decisions after the catc and on kick/punt returns. Hands are fairly reliable, but he does tend to catch with his body too often. Missed time in 2008 with a foot injury. Missed four games in 2009 with a hamstring injury. Missed most of 2010 with medical redshirt due to a broken foot. Comments: Wylie isn’t going to be a No. 1 or even a No. 2 at the next level, but his speed makes him a dangerous threat. In the right system, he could be a dangerous weapon in the slot and should make an immediate impact as a return specialist. Given his playmaking ability, he could come off the board on Day 2 is some team is willing to reach on a luxury pick. If he falls further, however, it will be due to injury concerns. None of his injuries are devastating

Round 5 Russell Wilson QB

Round 6 Bryan Anger P

No way does Kuechly make it past the Eagles(they pick at 15). They need LB's very badly, and at that point he would not only be BPA, he would also fill their biggest need. Not a huge fan of Boykin either, tired of miniature CB's, would rather have Trumaine Johnson, or maybe even Josh Robinson if we go with a smaller CB. Rest of the draft is solid.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
