Justin Blackmon And Morris Claiborne

The two prospects I see most Huddlers get the most excited over are the two least likely prospects to fall to #9 that people are talking about. Everybody gets that right? There is no chance in hell that either slides to #9. If the smallest drop starts happening for either of them, someone will jump up and grab them. It's time to let this fantasy go. It's going to be either Cox, Brockers, Kuechly, Coples, or some surprise that nobody has the Panthers picking like Reiff. We had our fun last year with Cam, you have to be prepared to be a little underwhelmed this year.

I wouldn't say that's the case at all. I think a lot of people like Mo and Blackmon but people realize the chances of them falling are slim. I have seen much more love and attention shown to players that will be there at 9, like Cox, Brockers, and Kuechly.

Did any of us expect to get Everette Brown in the 2nd round? How about Jimmy Clausen?

And don't say anything about how they were bust's, we all know. They were both respectively graded as top 15 picks.

Michael Floyd is a real possibility. Why draft Cam, extend a 5-9 WR who is 33 unless you are going to give him weapons? Smith will be a weapon in the slot while Floyd plays #1. In addition, Gettis and Lafell make the WR corps awesome.

You seem fixated on DL. I am going to say that it is very possible that we do not draft a defensive lineman. Stop the presses. We have a lot of youth at DT and get Edwards from IR. At DE, we re-signed Applewhite, and really like Keiser. How they feel about Hardy is key, but they think he simply played too many snaps. Conditioning and more play from Applewhite and Keiser solves that issue.

CB, 2 LBs, WR, and possibly OL and P will be taken, but you could argue that we are young and developing at DL and the best thing is to get out of the way and let them mature. #9 sucks for taking a LB or CB, so we could very well elect to give Cam a weapon that would give us the best offense in Football. Remember, this O loves big WRs (See SD).

Just an alternative point of view.

I agree its unlikely that either Blackmon or Claiborne fall to 9, however stranger things have happened. Always seems like someone drops in the draft, that is why Panthers are talking to Claiborne and blackmon. They know there is a chance one of the two falls. Not great chance by any means, but all it takes is for one team ahead of us to fall in love with someone else and turn the whole draft upside down.

If either falls it is not a foregone conclusion we will jump on them either. I know people think we would but think about it for a minute, the reason they fell was not because either of them have significant issues but that teams drafted other guys they felt were bigger needs. it is very possible that if either fell to 9 we could pass as well in favor of a DE/DT who is at a position of need. I know that everyone gets all weak in the knees thinking we would have to take either of them if they fell but the answer is not necessarily. We would obviously give them a seriously look but folks thinking it is a foregone conclusion might be very disappointed come draft day.

Claiborne is less likely but there are people who think that Floyd could be higher that Blackmon on some team's boards. So I'm not ruling him out. I wouldn't agree with the pick because I think we already have 2 great pass catching options, 2 really good pass catching options and the best running game in the league but I wouldn't rule it out.

At this point I think the most likely option is a trade down and we end up getting either Brockers, Coples (if he falls), or Fletcher Cox. I'd be satisfied with any of those picks. I think the only ways we DON'T trade down are obviously if we can't find a parter or if Claiborne is there.

Yes it is very unlikely Claibourne and Blackmon will be there. BUT Gilmore and Floyd will. I know Dline, Linebacker and guard are more popular picks do not be surprised if the Panthers rank the WR as such 1a. Blackmon 1b. Floyd.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
