Panthers Considering Trading Back To The Jets?

So I read that the Jets wanted to trade up for Ingram. I have also read that Jacksonville wants him as well. SO it seems that if the Jets want him they will have to trade up to the 7th pick. But lets say he falls to the 9th pick. Who thinks we should pass on arguably the best DE in the draft to pick up a third or possibly a second. If we go down to the Jets pick we likely lose out on Ingram, Cox, Coples, etc. Mayock has said that the 8th or 9th pick is the demarcation line between an impact starter and a good player. Remember our track record in the second round....

most panther fans (and, by extension, most fans of any team that follows the draft) are of the ilk that trading down is always the best decision to make.

I'd like to ask them how much better a decision it was to trade down to 5 and settle with Kerry Collins so we can draft Shawn King in the second round rather than staying at 1 and taking McNair

Trading back looks pretty on paper but I still like being in the top ten. The last month has changed my opinion about trading back. We have two solid picks this yr and I think we can shore things up with those first two picks.

Also, perhaps the strong interest in wr this yr with the potential draftees might be a smoke screen. Possibly to spark a "reach" from a team wanting Floyd. I can see that.

If the player the Panthers want is there at 9, they will take him. If, they are willing to trade, could mean they are not happy with the talent pool.

Also, IMO, If you are willing to draft a guy at 19, why can't you take him at 9? If you believe he is everything you want, why not? For example, Worthy is not rated a top ten, but I would take him over any other DT in this class. If I want him at 16, so what if I take him at 9. Or, Gilmore, he may not be a top ten, although that is debtable, I would take him at 9.

Point being. If you believe in the guy, take him. If he performs, nobody will care where you got him. Conversely, if he flops, everyone knows where you got him. But that is true of all draft picks.

Just another in a long line of thoughts. And GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't be surprised to see the a trade down. Rivera has made it clear that he'd rather have a team of consistent role players and positions played "by committee" as opposed to a few big money Prima Donnas and bunch of scrubs.

Granted, Rivera isn't the one who ultimately makes the decision, but his point of view is certainly taken in to account.

I guess when faced with this kind of decision, knowing there are at least 3 positions that need attention, the question for Hurney would be how much faith he has in the coaching staff. That is to say, does he trust that the staff can take a mid-first-rounder and a couple of second-rounders and turn them in to effective, consistent starting role-players, or do you just take a sure thing at one position and fill the other holes as best you can.

The homer in me says that Rivera and team can do the job and coach up lower picks and that we don't have to draft instant starters. But again, that's just me being a homer.

The source isn't that credible, but the trade itself makes sense. The jets have had a history of trading up in the first round, that's how they got Sanchez and Revis. I would be happy with trading down a little to target Worthy, though personally I think it's a little risky. I like Worthy and Cox but I don't like the other DT's that much. I'll be much happier with just staying at 9 and grabbing Cox (see what I did there?).

I don't think any 43 team should take Ingram btw, personally I think Jacksonville picks Floyd.
