So I go to the pump today and for the first time ever paid over 70.00 to fill up my truck. I don't necessarily want to get rid of it but these prices are starting to make me go arghh!! I was wondering if any of you truck/suv drivers like me would consider trading down for a more gas friendly ride?

If I'd ever do that, I'd probably look to a Subaru Legacy, Infiniti G37 or Acura TSX

So would bumping up from around 16 to 24 mpg be worth it if the trade is reasonable? or should I stick with my double cab?

I drive a Tahoe and it cost me over 90 to fill up the other day. I've always joked about getting something like a Chevy Volt next...but I'm starting to seriously think about it. Gas prices are never going back down far enough to make a difference.

My mom has a G35 and while it's obviously a tad different than the G37, I love it. Sensitive brake but you get used to it.

Yeah I'm finally starting to think seriously about because I'm at 65,000 miles in 6 years with it and never had a problem. Its in great shape so the bluebook is still fine (like 16,500) especially if I can get rid of it through a credit union deal. Its just the dent of gas prices are more easily felt by the month and if I can reduce it, its only beneficial. I'm not even using my bed much anymore :(

The math pretty much never works out to make a move simply for gas mileage, but if you're considering moving from a truck to a car anyway IMO and IME it's absolutely worth it. I owned an Explorer for 8 years (~ 15 mpg) and went to a Legacy (consistently 27 mpg) and now fill up pretty much 1/2 as often depending on my city/hwy mix. I thought I might miss my Explorer, but I don't.

damn I didn't realize the Legacy was that high...if its that close enough to 30 I'd seriously consider it

hmm...gonna have to do some research but if I'm doing this, I'm def doing it before the summer

Yeah, the 2.5i trim of the new model (2010 and newer) has a CVT option that EPAs 23 city/31highway (the manual is 19/29 I think), and it's held true for me. The engine is a 170 hp 4-cylinder, so it's not a race car by any means, but I find the acceleration more than adequate and the handling and all-time AWD are phenomenal. My wife's Focus is somewhat useless in the snow, so my requirements were 4WD/AWD (and not the crappy 90/10 kind) and solid mileage. The Legacy isn't going to go places in feet of snow, but no problem in 6-8" of powder and the rain traction is great.

My truck now takes 70-80 to fill up about once a week, but I'm not selling yet. Unfortunately, once you go truck, it's hard to go back. Only way I'm selling and converting to a small car is if gas really goes crazy. If it breaks $6 I'll think about it.

Like B.B. said though, I have been thinking about getting a motorcycle to commute to work. My area is flooded with dirtbikes that can easily and cheaply be converted to be street-legal.

    • Maybe a bit of a homer take but I can't give us a grade lower than A.   Freeling was arguably the best LT prospect in the draft.  His athletic ability is off the chart and at 6'7" that can move.  It was a no brainer pick.   Hunter's key word is Violence. Putting him next to Brown should scare an offensive coordinator. These two give Scourton and Phillips plenty of chances to get one on one opportunities. Brazzell, another tall receiver with sprinter speed.  Our WR room is filled with tall talented WR.  Brazzell is going to give us a WR that can take to roof off the defense.  Basically Jimmy Horn with size. W. Lee III has a nickname of the Blanket. (heard this on the Beleav podcast with J. Stewart)  What a great name.  A great value in the 5th round. Hecht A strong, fast and extremely smart center. Many had him listed as the best center in the draft.  He's most likely a starter sooner than later. Wheatley A good safety in round 5.  Someone who could see playing time.   Kuwatch  I love this pick.  At minimum he will be a key piece on special teams and with some good coaching he'll see some packages where he'll play.  His down piece is he doesn't stay up in the running game.  Good coaching will fix this.  He reminds me a bit of A.J. Klein.   All these picks were great value.  I believe everyone of them were graded higher than the pick we took them.   Dan Morgan is IMO doing a great job turning this team into a good team with great depth.

    • Sure, that is possible. That’s what, an extra 55 yards a game on average and 7 more TDs? What if he’s just 15th?  I imagine they would extend him in that situation due to the belief that he’ll keep trending up. maybe a 3 year contract to prove he can be top 10? Sounds like a Tepper plan.
