Rivera Looking For Immediate Impact

It will be Coples

I'm thinking that aswell. I want Coples for some reason. I think he could be the next Mike Rucker or Peppers for the DE postion. Hardy will be going back to his backup postion this season. Unless Blackmon or Claiborne is at 9th pick when it is our turn or Hurney trades down for more picks.

Seems like every freak of nature DE that comes into the league always gets a bad rep for having low motor. Peppers had low motor issues too according to every Panther fan here. That's why he was a perrenial Pro Bowler and had sacks galore and got that fat contract, right?

If the only issue is so-called motor issues, please for god's sake take Coples. Though tbh I would be happy with Fletcher as well. Yes, I used his first name to avoid using his last name on purpose.

Did you guys watch the ENTIRE conference? How can you listen to all that about protecting Cam, giving him weapons and protecting him, making the strength stronger, etc. and automatically assume that the ready-to-play football player is not DeCastro?

Or Floyd?

They talked for several minutes how they were getting players on D back from IR. They signed 2 DEs in free agency and Keiser turned heads late in the season. RR even explained that CJ had a back injury, etc.

If you want to talk Cox, go ahead, but RR addressed the topic of rookie DTs as well, explaining how they did not expect the Edwards injury etc. We could draft Cox and I hope we do, but RR has Edwards healed, 3 second year players he will not give up on, Shirley and Neblett, each of whom had 2.5 sacks last year in limited duty.

I am not sure you heard what I heard, but I think we will address D, but at CB and LB first. Remember, Marty drafts safely in round 1, which is why he has never drafted a DT before round 3. After Peppers, he has never drafted a DE before round 3. Marty drafts safely.

I do not think we should draft a G either, but I did not watch that news conference and come away with Coples or Cox. Far from it.

NFL Draft: 2009 / Round: 2 / Pick: 43: DE Everette Brown

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
