Odds Hurney Goes Crazy

Problem is that if you can be assured it will be late pick you surrender then it is a win for you bit that hasn't always been the case for us. We got a 19 For Otah and it cost us a second and our next year's first which was the 28th so not so bad. But then we took Brown in the second round and it cost us our first which was a 17th pick, an incredibly bad choice.

The question is who is so great at say 20 that is worth our second and next year's first that can't be approximately in the second round at 40???

Brown was out of desperation, terrible pick, had to take a shot, failed miserably

deep drafts like this one, as stated by someone else above, make it easier to pull that trigger. The big factor for me is how well you think the team is and how poised they are for a run if, IF you can shore up a few holes.

I'll give up a 20 something any day for a pick in the teens or even 20's. Hell you get 'em a year early. As long as the draft is deep and lots of pieces are in place (seemingly to the draftor) go for it.

It's just as much a gamble or more to wait in some cases.

You start trading away picks when your in a win now situation. We are not in that situation.

I disagree. We are in an excellent win now situation. I will say however I'm never in favor of trading away our future.

Ya, over 50% chance that we wheel n deal something this year. We are a team who moves around and this year I think there will be lots of movement in the draft. New rookie wage scales make it easier to chances on guys and supposedly there are a good number of talent level ranking dropoffs that I keep hearing about.

and stupid people, lots of stupid people that will unquestionably do something stupid tomorrow. Hope its not us.

Who would he exactly be pulling the trigger for?

We have TONS of needs. DE, DT, LB, CB and even S to a degree. If everyone is trying to get rid of 1 st round picks away he may take advantage of it.....

Could draft someone like Luke at 9. Make a move for Coples or a DT that drops a little and grab a CB with the 2nd. Could walk away with 3 guys who could compete for starting gigs.....and we need D help

The only way he would trade up is if it was a pick and player like Stewart. He won't give up multiple picks. When you don't venture into free agency every pick is very valuable.

I don't think he trades up. I think he could have 2 1st round picks and his 2nd.....walk away with 3 guys who can hopefully see the field soon.

I don't mind doing it in deep drafts.

This one is considered deep. Just don't reach for undersized linemen or project players. You must pick players that contribute day 1.

Luke, Coples, and Jenkins.... Something like that. That would be projects. Would be 3 guys that could hopefully start soon. Would require a Coples type guy to drop

If you would pay attention, you would know my ideas.

Answer me this little question.

How well has trading back into any round ever helped this team?

I will give you the players that we have traded back up for.

Everette Brown

Armanti Edwards

Jeff Otah

So please, inform me why we should give up next years 1 again?

And why would you trust Hurney to make the right pick if we did so?

Let's use logic here, instead of Bravado.

As the OP states, I DO NOT endorse it. Logic shows Hurney was trained and programmed to handle drafts in a certain manner.

With everyone trying to get rid of 1st rounders.....and our lack of a 3rd. It presents a scenario where Hurney could go nuts.

We have been trading picks for years. Hurney has his own belief system about the draft. We potentially have the best offense this franchise has ever seen......just as ready to win off that as several prior years
