lol what? get out of here with that dude.

If you can't see the difference in talent level between LB and the other atrocious positions of need on defense then there's no hope for you.

Not to mention the fact that you're overvaluing the LB position again,.

And you are undervaluing the LB position. I am going off of what Rivera has said, which is that our LBers were the primary reason this defense could not be more aggressive. They are very important for his scheme.

We do not know exactly how they feel about DT, DE, or CB, but they likely feel better about them than they did about LB.... either that, or they thought Kuechly was so good they had to take him anyway. For CB, it is not too far fetched that they really think they have something good(edit: special is too much :P) with Hogan. For DE, I think it is understandable why they are reasonably happy (I think we have a good deal of talent there personally, though it'd be nice to pick up another pass rusher). For DT, they just invested 2 draft picks in DT, have a FA acquisition returning from injury, and spoke glowingly about some of the younger players that they have coming back.

For LB, they lost our primary starting MLB last year to FA(not that he was the best player anyway), have a gaping hole where TD once started, have our presumed starting mic coming back from a major injury after consecutive years with lots of missed time. All we have is Anderson, who is good but not elite. This might not be a huge deal but on this team, Rivera has said that the scheme is very dependent on quality linebackers.

You're assuming that just because we took a LB that Hurney is more comfortable with the other positions than he is LB. That isn't true. Person reported earlier that Kuechly was taken because he was the "BPA."

You're also assuming that LB play was a root cause for our struggles last year. Even with the injuries, it wasn't. Poor DL play is the root of your entire defensive success. Regardless of scheme, you have to have a strong DL that can enable your LB's and Secondary to do what is asked of them.

Having a strong DL isn't a "scheme" thing. It's a "football" thing. That'd be like saying you don't need a good OL simply because you run a WCO.

First of all... the draft isnt over.

And most important, you dont pass up sure talent just to reach for a need.

The best football player on the board was there, and we took him. What is so bad about that?

The best D-Lineman available is reaching. At least you seem to be admiting LB wasnt a need that only an elite talent could fill.

    • Ravens mixing it up with a random Mark Andrew tush push last year isn't a similar situation.  Lamar has run QB sneaks his entire career.  And often instead of a traditional sneak will even employ a 4th and 1 direct snap to Lamar simply because of how athletic he is (which even Cam did a lot of) and let him pick his own holes.
    • height being an issue doesn't just mean batted balls.  You could argue Bryce minimizes batted balls by adopting other poor habits such as his jump passing and leaving the pocket.   As I said, there are plays you can point to where he clearly was blind to parts of the field/players....which kills plays and opportunity. Which actually means some of the shorter/hot throws when things break down are where his vision gets blocked (and he had below average production all around the line of scrimmage).   has he figured it out? I mean, he improved off a trainwreck start.  But Bryce Young since arriving in the league (even while figuring it out)......doesn't generate much offensive production vs his peers.  I just think his ceiling is low.   And that's not in the grand scheme what you want in the NFL.  I think he can develop into a serviceable QB, that will largely always been a middle of the pack or low end starter.
    • People make a lot of noise about his footwork and I think it is overblown. Whether he takes 3 steps backwards or 5 small steps doesn't matter as long as he ends up at the right depth and is in sync with  the receiver regarding timing. If he does that consistently who cares as long as he has a firm stable base as he delivers the ball. Which he does need to work on. However even that is somewhat overblown given that often QBs have to throw off balance or from different arm angles to fit the ball around defenders. He is considered very accurate so apparently it isn't hurting him that much.
