Connor Vs. Kuechly

Way to go. Compare a white LB... to another white LB lol (I knew someone would do this)

I didn't compare them in my OP (I'll let you pass because you're a Gamecock fan .. not because I like them myself .. but because I understand what kind of education they offer)

Why did we draft Cam last year? We had Clausen on the roster. We were set with Clausen, and should have gotten another position of need.

too many newbies posting here

some advice:

Please read the OP before posting

this topic does not compare a QB to a LB or Connor to Kuechly

It discusses the purpose/thought behind making certain decisions, etc. regarding the draft/free agency

I think one healthy LBr on the team is enough reason to take the best player remaining on the board. We already have enough injury prone LBr's that we depend on to have kept Connor. At least Davis and Beason HAVE been able to accomplish something Connor hasn't - which is play a full season as a starter. Maybe it is so obvious that it seems to get ignored or overlooked.

Sigh. I love how you get upset when you think people don't respect your opinion but as soon as someone else has a different opinion you throw out personal insults. Try again.

insults? where? lol

all of my friends are gamecock fans .. so I can't let someone get by without giving them sh** (although be lucky you're not a Duke fan or it would have been MUCH worse :))

haha .. I'm a heels fan .. so feel free to let me have it

great point .. if our LB's are at full-strength this year .. watch out! Adding Kuechly hopefully accomplished more than simply upgrading the position .. hopefully it will allow us to make sure Beason, etc are healthy BEFORE they take the field this season!

haha nice try .. but I didn't even compare Kuechly to Connor in my OP .. I was simply stating we could have used our pick on another position of need if we had re-signed Connor

LB would have been an area of need as well (even with Connor) .. but not nearly as bad as other positions

Because having Connor would've put this team in a rough spot assuming injuries occurred. If Davis went out, Beason would've been forced to play the outside because Connor isn't skilled enough if that area. You are essentially effecting two positions with Connor starting.

In addition Connor (who isn't skilled at covering), would be taken out of most obvious pass plays, leaving our pass defense suffering.

These are two significant issues that ( assuming scouts are right) won't occur with Luke. I could argue, that whatever benefit the extra defender that we could've drafted provided,

the potential pitfalls at LB would've canceled it out as far as entire defensive production goes.

In other words:

Anderson, Beason, Luke, Current D> Anderson , Connor, Beason, Extra D player
