Dt - It Isn't Quite As Bad As You Think.

How many times are we going to rehash it over and over. The FO had tons of opportunity to add DTs and they didnt. Except for the idiots who keep saying Hurney and Rivera are idiots and know nothing, the rest of you should figure out that we didn't draft DTs because the coaches and staff feel good about who we have. I told you we wouldn't add a DT with MCClain being added 1 position out of the second round last year.

But I forgot, the guys advocating for DT know more about our needs and issues than the coaches do. And a rookie DT was going to solve all our problems. Never mind we will likely bring in a good free agent veteran who gets cut to make room for one of these big name flashy rookies.

You don't understand you idiot, the season starts a week from today. The defensive tackles we have are the ones we are going to war with no matter what. I heard Ron is going out there in a sling.

If that was the case than any fat man could do it.

Wrong. again.

Way to take my response completely out of context. You know damn well not every fat person can play in the NFL.

However, d-tackle is one of the positions in the league where you can literally bring guys in undrafted or from small time schools and they can come in and compete and even start. the first round is littered with dtackle flops.

Panthers went to a SB with Jordan Carstens playing at a high level in DT. Not a big numbers guys, but good enough to take up space and let the pass rush/LBs do work.

Carstens could of had a longer career if he didn't get sick.

As you suggest free agency isn't over and we will likely add more players down the road. But we surely aren't going to add a ton of guys at DT and pretty much are going to go into training camp with who we have. Our camp limit is 90 and we have right at 86 or so signed assuming the draft picks all sign. We could dump guys as better guys come on the market but won't be making any wholesale changes at this point.

Once the dancing bear and soda can (mcclain and fua) were hurt I thought the interior of the line looked much improved. we had some big hogs in there for once and they rolled their sleeves up and got down and dirty and did some work in there. we finally had some big fat strong dudes in there dropping bombs on the opponents OLine.

The play of of our DTs and lbers were a combo of embarassmen last season. While ai do not think Edwards will be at any elite level I do think he will bring some run stuffing double team presence that was lacking for most the season. Shirley or one of the other DTs will be solid as well and I think we should see a jump in production with McClain.

McClain got so many snaps last season and in a rotation he shouldl flash his pass rush skills and hopefully develop some consistancy.

Also an offseason helps..

Having a real off season will certainly help. As will Jon Beason.
