Any Pet Lovers? Torn Between Two Dog Breeds

Oh, I don't have carpet anymore. It's just his hair. There exists no vacuum in the world that can rid my apartment of the hair.

Anyways, my best friend got a Ridgeback right before I got Lykos up there. They are really good pals. I love the Ridgeback. It has such an interesting demeanor. Very loving dog as well.

Did he get him around here? I can't find a breeder anywhere remotely close.

Small dogs are considered annoying because the owners raise them as annoying. It's cute when a tiny dog jumps up on you, not so much for great danes. Small breeds need to be treated just like large breeds and they have none of the problems people associate with them. People will defend pit bulls and blame their actions on their owner then turn around and say little dogs are poo.

Cheaper, too. lol

A strong pedigree Doberman will cost you $800-1k plus $3-500 for a correct ear trim. Ridgebacks seem to be between $5-700. Do you know of any breeders in NC? I haven't been able to locate one.

Unfortunately I don't of any personally, but here are a few in nc:

One in sc. http://highveldrr.com/

My dad has a boxer who is cool as poo. I personally have a boston terrier who only weighs in the low 30 pound range. I only ended up with a small dog cuz my ex convinced me that was the way to go and I lived in an apartment at the time. After I broke up with her I kept the lil bastard,, who I love to death but I had to move into a house with a fenced in back yard and a dog door to keep him sane with the long hours I work.

Back on subject, I did no research on the breeds you mentioned or have any personal experience with the 2 but that RR looks pretty cool and his breed has the same initials as Rivera so theres a panther connection for you.

Before I moved to Mexico, i was going to buy a Rhodesian Ridgeback, mainly because I heard they are fine in a hot climate. Because I live in the desert. The temperatures tend to get pretty hot here. Peaks to the 120's in the summer. So I wanted a breed that could handle that and be a great guard dog. No I wouldn't leave it unattended before any of you think I'd just leave the dog outside all day. My current dog, Sheppard/Mut mix, lives inside with us but I let him out at night, when it's not hot.

They are apparently from Africa and they are used for several functions. They are great protectors and they ward off several wild beasts. I didn't buy one only because the cost for a pup was 1,000 dollars. It's not that I didn't have the money, I just didn't feel like spending that much on a dog was justified. I tried to haggle down the price with the person who was selling the pups, she wanted 1k or no deal. I was like, whatever lady. Good luck selling them then.

I've heard really good things about this dog type. I still think I should have gotten it back then. They are very cool breed of canine. I would have named that dog Chico, like my current dog. Yes, my dogs name is Chico, like Rivera's nick name, but I didn't name him that. It was a total coincidence..

There are several Ridgeback rescues in NC. I've researched the dog extensively as I've wanted one myself for years. Great animal.

If there is a downside, your schedule. You absolutely have to make time to walk and run these dogs on a regular schedule. This dog has been known to run 100 miles without stopping. It will take down a lion- what it was bred to do- and it will be as loyal as it is loved. But it has to be exercised. I saw a piece on Animal Planet about a breeder who also runs marathons- a couple of her RR's go with her everyday on training runs.

Please, please make that commitement or find another breed.
