NFL.com Article on Jon Beason

Well if he doesn't return as the elite player we know him to be, then wouldn't you say his prior injury has certainly been a detriment to his career?

I don't think that's the case at all, though. Beason's hard work, determination, and football smarts will certainly allow him to come back from this injury. Maybe he won't always be 100%, but even a 90% Jon Beason is better than 99% of the NFL's MLBs.

K Ill start. Now way in fuggin hell the Luke ever "replaces" Beason unless he has a career ending injury.

Luke is a top 10 pick. If he pans out and Beason never returns to what he was....he will replace Beason.

No he isn't

look at how average he looked when asked to make a position change a couple years ago and get out of his routine. Lower a health % and it impacts a players instincts.

Leadership and communicating has alrready been deemed has necessary components to his positon by Rivera. If he returns at 80% he will still be our starting MLB.

An 80% Beason could start off the year but won't keep the job long playing at 80%.

Which is why Luke is learning the MLB spot. Beason is also learning....he doesn't have a lot of experience playing in this scheme either. He has an NFL edge...but not the edge of playing in a scheme for years

Its not a job for the losing once a man is put in a leadership position. He is either the guy, or he gets traded and shipped off.

We have to wait and see how he performs but Jon Beason IS our Defense. His mentality and passion and intensity cannot just be replaced. I was confused when we drafted him but that just proved to myself that I'm not employed by the NFL for a reason.

    • There is a Grand Canyon-sized chasm between your opinion and the opinions of most former player hockey guys who do this for a living.
    • I can only imagine the **** eating grins on the committee right now. "Oh, Bama didn't deserve it? Oh, Miami didn't deserve it? Suck it, haters!" lol
    • To say that, is gaslighting, because it isn’t true. I mean, maybe one or two people do that but it isn’t the predominant behavior. Even Frank has given him credit. I think particularly the Rams game. A couple of glowing posts.   I know I have. Gotta be honest about it because if you aren’t it undermines what else you say.  But the degree of how far I go with credit, in terms of it being a projection of future performance? Not very far. Acknowledge it, but require more of it. There is a lot of bad play to offset.    I tried to remain passive while the last 9 games (post ankle injury) played out. It is just really hard when the lows won’t go away. I failed. As high as a couple of those highs were, there isn’t enough.    I know it is premature to just say I want to move on, made my decision after 6 of those games ended up pretty much really good or not good enough, but I have had enough of being patient and letting him show the reality either way.  So in my view, he Could still validate himself to a decent degree if he smokes the last three starts. But also in my view I don’t expect to see it. Maybe one more high quality start, would be my expectation. So yes he could still somehow justify having the job next year. If that happened I still wouldn’t have much faith given the last three years and all that has transpired. Again, there is a lot of bad play to offset.
