Plaxico coming to Charlotte?

i'm not going to dwell on that. no point in doing it. i'm not a chicken little or just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

it's a new year and a clean slate. a new era. until i see otherwise, this team is healthy and in a very good place. it might help you and others to dwell on how things always turns to poo just when we think things are going well so we might as well just plan on poo happening, but i'm not going to go down that path.

i had enough of that crap when fox was here and everything always seemed so limited to begin with. we started out in a corner with very limited options. that just isn't the case now.

you can assume things will work out or assume that we're just going to be disappointed. i just can't see any benefit at all in starting out a season expecting crap to happen. that's no fun and it doesn't make life easier, imo.

I get it. As a fan, the off-season is the time to be drinking the koolaid and everyone is undefeated and going to the Superbowl. Plenty of time for reality to hit down the road. As long as the coaches and FO are not adopting that attitude and preparing for every contingency then we should be alright. I was speaking more from my concerns as if I were a coach or a FO preparing for the season and considering bringing in a vet in August if things don't work out rather than a fan who can afford to look through rose colored glasses right now.

Totally understand this. With Fox it's like you almost already knew what is going to happen. I couldn't stand Fox's whole 'don't outsmart them, outplay them' bullshit, makes it almost impossible for a rookie or talent to see the field and gain much needed experience. Outsmarting a team with mismatches, something almost all teams do and outsmarting the other team with a gameplan was out of the question. Either Fox's plan to run out the clock worked, or it didn't. I can't possibly imagine going to next three years without getting into the post season...for not only the super bowl but back to back winning seaons, the first in history will be so nice...poo talking to rival/Saints***/cowboy/steelers but mostly falcon fans can finally last more than a few months.

Can't blame p55 for the pestimism too much after something like almost a decade Fox era.

For me it wasn't just Fox although he was way too predictable, it was the fact that almost every year we seem to have our share of injuries and more. Just when things seem to be looking great, a unforeseen calamity occurs.

As for wide receivers, how many have we successfully developed over the years? A handful at best. LaFell is the best we have developed since Smitty in 01. We have a lot of guys who were flash in the pans or had injuries cut them short like Jeffers, Ryne Robinson and others.

And we have really never developed a good catching TE. Walls and not Olsen were trades.

Lots of reasons for tempered expectations.

again, new coaching staff. new era. these guys get it in a way that esp. fox didn't.

no reason to expect the same results with different coaches and coaching philosophies. it's a clean slate and from what i've seen so far, these guys are all about developing players.

If anything, AE should be 3rd or 4th QB. Jimmy needs to go.

But Plaxico here isn't nearly as bad as you would think.

I think where it stands now if we need that big guy for third down or in the red zone Plax is the guy.Shooting yourself in the leg is not a crime in NC.For sure he has slowed down but is still a very reliable receiver in certain situation

Looking at all Receivers we have (WR and TE), If something would happens to the starters or the 3rd WR (Gettis). We have a lot of unknowns and less then 50 total catches between all the WR's and TE's on the roster.

They should be at least talking to Plaxico.

Olsen had 45 catches by himself.

I'm afraid regardless of fan sentiment (which is mixed) it's pretty clear the Panthers will not be talking to Burress at all.

This can be said for most any team. You don't simply stockpile multiple of starting receivers. If your starting WRs go down you are simply screwed.
