Brandon LaFell interview

Recommended Posts

Sounds like Kuech's still has some guys to win over.

I think it's more indicative of how little some guys think of a couple other defensive guys more than it is towards Kuechly. When we didn't draft a Munnerlyn replacement early some guys may have let out a collective WTF.

Players are not going to be able to see the need to bring in a guy like Kuechly with Davis and Beason coming back. To acknowledge that after an injury a player might never return to form reminds them that they all could be one play from a career impacting injury. They would prefer to think that we don't need that much depth. What would he had said if we drafted Blackmon with the first pick?

LaFell is not that speedy down the field but that is often overblown. It isn't so much running down the field but how well they run routes and get in and out of their breaks that causes separation. Those things he can learn from Smitty which is why Smith still gets so open on many plays. He may have lost a step but he can confuse a Db with ease.

All Wide Receivers think they are the best. It's what helps them get to the highest level. I bet Dwayne Jarret didn't have a ton of confidence.

jarrett's problem was too much confidence. he thought he was too good for anything. he didn't want to do special teams stuff. he didn't want to learn a lot. he just wanted to go out there and do his thing. he wasn't receptive to coaching or instructions.

the problem was that he wasn't as good as he thought and didn't feel it necessary to grow. no desire to grow and learn.

refresh my memory...what was the ooo wee main thing?

"ohh wee mayne."

from his twitter account. iirc, he posted it after one really bad loss in '10. that was all he said. of course there wasn't too much that could be said.

    • I do think the rating is fair given how this unit hasn’t proven it with production. I understand you have to rank off production, not potential. However, our unit is also in a position to make this rating look foolish a year from now. We have 4 guys in the WR/TE room who all could legitimately take the next step this year, and catapult our rank. A guy under a lot of people’s radar after we took Tet, Jalen Coker. Mark my words, he will become the star of this room, and be the heir to Thielen.
    • Exactly. You’d think 2-7 wins a year (in a 17 game season no less) since 2017 is going to keep us bottom tier. Every year we say the same poo like we haven’t been a bad team the past 7 years. Until we prove we aren’t a bottom dweller, that’s where we’ll stay ranked. God forbid we have OL injuries like 2016.
    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
