Shopping For TVs on Craigslist

Has anyone else done this?

If so, has anyone else realized how retarded most people are and what a poor grasp the majority of them have on the concept of depreciation or planned obsolescence?

I mean, who is really going to pay $250 for a used, eight-year old television, regardless of the size? I wouldn't even pay that for a three-year old television.

Only reason I'm looking is because we need to upgrade the TV in the bedroom or mancave/workout room, so we can move the smaller TV to the kids playroom or guest room, but I'm just amazed at the stupidity of people trying to sell stuff on there.

Yeah, I've run into similar stuff when I was selling before, which turned me off of Craigslist for quite awhile. I get that people are going there looking for bargains, but some people just lack all sense of tact and/or etiquette when it comes to negotiating.

I was selling a bike on there a couple months back and got crap like this (abbreviated and edited for brevity and privacy reasons, but mostly just location info, names, etc.):

I am interested in your bike, Would you take $150.00?

-----

I'm sorry, I can't do $150, but for $185 it's all yours. Let me know if you are still interested, thanks!

----

OK, money is tight right now. What year is it?

-----

According to the original owner, it was purchased brand new in May of this year. It's in great condition aside from a few scrapes on the bottom of the frame. It's a beautiful bike and I've only rode it about three times for a total of 20 minutes.

----

OK, can you send address and number? Ill call before I come over.

----

Well, I prefer to meet at a public place, if that's okay. Would you be okay with meeting at (the local Wal-Mart)? And would you be offering $185? My number is ***-***-**** (fake number using text plus app, lol).

----

After reviewing this months expenses, I just can not afford the bike. Would you be interested in trading for a canoe?

Two problems right off the bat. First, where in that exchange did I invite this creeper to my house? Second, where did I ever give any hint that I would be interested in any watercraft over cash?

Just insulting, lol. Another guy lowballed me and I told him the least I'd do was $175. He emails me back and tells me to lower the asking price so he can buy it, saying something like "Dude, no one is going to pay you what you're asking for that bike, lol. I'll buy it for ___." Like he was doing me a favor or something, smh... Within days, someone bought it for the $185 I was willing to sell for.

Just sold a white water kayak on CL. Listed it with a number of accessories including a paddle. Kept getting emails from this one guy asking me if I would sell him half of the paddle because he had broken one of his blades.

Wanted HALF of the paddle....

I'm telling you man... It's like all of the weirdos from the personals section crept over into the 'for sale' section and took it over. It wasn't like that a few years back.

I don't go anywhere on that site but the 'for sale' section, but my best friend has some hall of fame stories about his experiences with meeting women off of CL.

Another thing, like I posted in the quote above, I don't know how many people insisted on coming to my house when I was selling that bike. When did that become the norm? I don't want strangers knowing where I live and whatnot. They don't even ask, they just say "Give me your address, I'll call on my way." Uhh, no.

My friend posted a couple jobs for an office admin and got some qualified responses....what they didn't realize is he also got their CL avatars. (Didnt know that had avatars)

One was this Asian girl flashing her boobs the other was a girl with a huge pot leaf on her shirt.

He interviewed the Asian :)

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
