Amini Silatolu?

Kind of confusing answers for the OP don't you think?

I thought Cam was under pressure almost instantly on most snaps. For a downfield passing attack that isn't good, especially when the the deep threat is missing.

The key to beating that defense is running the ball more effectively on first and second down. The offense wasn't helping itself by trying 3rd & 8 all game. It would really help the lineman like Bell and Amini who are better run blockers.

The run game is hard to judge in the preseason because it's effectiveness should improve as they wear the defense down. I think we could have worn them down a lot and taken over. Blitzes also get a lot less effective when they've had the ball shoved down their throat.

Not sure what game you were watching. The OL had a lot of issues with pressure last night. The defense was in Cam's face all night long.

They were not terrible. But, they were FAR from really impressive.

The defenders were in Cams face more because of bad WRs than good pressure. The line did have lapses but Cam was holding the ball for a long time as well. Tutu might as well not have been on the field for the first half.

Although he did indeed look solid for a rookie, this thread's pretty boring if we're just going to ignore the pooload of mistakes he made yesterday. People in the chat wouldn't stop crying about the pass protection whenever Cam got pressured. When they would show a replay we would see Amini allowing a defender to walk into our backfield for free before Amini could find someone to block. Those tricky blitz packages they ran really confused the hell outta Amini.

Whenever our pass protection looked bad though, people in the chat would say "c'mon o-line", "o-line looking like ass today", or "the o-line sucks" as if the bad protection wasn't the fault of one or two individuals. He didn't look god awful, that's not what I'm saying, but you could definitely see his lack of experience. I hope he's ready to go by the start of the season because....well...he's our only answer at LG.

Cant believe that we might have made a good 2nd round pick lol.

That hadn't even crossed my mind!

Silatolu has really looked good to me. He's not infallable (stunts got him a couple of times last night, but no more than the vets on our line). He is powerful, gets up the field, plays through the whistle & knocks people around pretty well.

I think he is our 3rd or 4th best starting OLman already (Order of perceived OL play: Kalil, Gross, Silatolo, Bell, Hangartner). You could flip-flop SIlatolu & Bell either way, but it's fun watching Silatolu get to the next level.

Overall, for a rookie going against a decent DLine from the Jets, he did well. He made some true bone-headed mistakes, and gave up a couple of free passes, but that's to be expected from the rook. The other end had Bell having a few prblems containing the outside rush a couple of times, and getting bull-rushed some as well. Considering he's a 2nd year UDFA, I'm ok with that.

All in all, it was a decent outing for the guys, but they still have some room to improve as a unit. I have full faith that by week 4, they will be considerably gelled enough to work effectively as a whole. By this time next year, we'll be 100% in the race for "Best OLine" discussions as well.

What is it with this: not sure what game you were watching crap. We were obviously watching the same game this thread is about but with different opinions. I was really impressed with Cam's protection in the passing game. Was it flawless, did he all a year to throw the ball? No and no, but he did have enough time to read the defense and make good read. To me thats really impressive. Our o-line has gotten alot better so again, I was really impressed.

Gonna have to disagree with you here. Our Oline should be one of the best in the league. We have one of the best centers and LTs in the game, a highly regarded draft prospect at LG, and 2 solid hard workers on the right side.

Amini didn't look terrible once he got a block, but him and kalil were not on the same page at the start of the game. A few too many guys got into the backfield without even being touched. Once again though, when everyone was blocking the correct guy, they looked really good. If everyone is on the same page and we work out these kinks our blocking should be top notch.

I was reallly impressed with our o-line pass protection.

Yep I thought they did well in pass protection all things considering. I think at times Cam held on to the ball too long (for whatever reason, WRs not getting open...) which allowed the pressure to get to him. I know it's the Jets but they didn't create a lot of holes in the running game last night.

    • Immediately cast blame? We had been talking about the bad throws to Hunter (the missed TDs and hospital ball) for days leading up to that injury report.   And yeah, the rib injury then becomes something to point out.  and you are getting desperate with this projected extremism.  No one  said you should never throw seams.  I shared with you an article after you scoffed at seams being routes you can get hung out to dry on….and it was the best of the best talking about the dangers of those routes.   And they talked about it because they threw them a lot and there dudes were at risk so the throws really matter.  Because you can hurt your receivers.  we disagree, cool.  I got a pro Bryce former NFL QB calling it a hospital ball and bad throw.  So I got a plus +1 making my argument.  Find a QB that backs your take.
    • You exclusively highlighted Hunter's name on the injury report and then immediately cast blame. I've pointed out that this wasn't the hospital ball you claim it to be while also acknowledging that there could have been another option to target instead of Renfrow. By everything you've expressed here, you don't think seam routes should ever be thrown. I don't know how that helps the already struggling offense, but I do know that it would make it even worse than it already is. Scapegoating never has and never will solve anything. Tell you what: Try not blaming Bryce or casting shade his way for the entire week after Arizona and instead look at the other 21 starters and assess what they're doing (again, without shading Bryce). I'll join you and refrain from exploring what the rest of the team is doing and will focus solely on what Bryce needs to do better. Deal? This is a sincere peace offering to allow us to explore the other's perspective and perhaps be even more informed football fans.
    • TMac PI throw was a TD too.  Bryce just drastically under threw it.  Renfrow and TMac set themselves up to BOTH have great days.   the story of last of no one was open…..isn’t a defense the Bryce Young defenders can use so far this year
