Rivera weighs in on Dwan Edwards and Terell Mcclain moves.

Short version:

Fua plays NT; McClain plays UT.

D Edwards was brought in to play UT.

Thus - Fua stays; McClain goes.

Understandable, Fua will be more of Ron Edwards back up, but I haven't seen anything impressive from him. In my opinion, McClain, at his position, shows more promise than Fua does at his position. But I do agree that we need more push up the middle. Our D-line will have a great rotation in the 5th week when Neblett comes back.

I know its been discussed but I still don't grasp why we kept Clausen on the roster and cut a guy that if nothing else, would he a somewhat useful backup/role player in Mclain... I trust Rivera, and I think he knows what he's doing, but that one intrigues me. Because face it, if we get to a point we need to actually use Clausen, we are fuged.

Having said that, I love the move to get D Edwards in here, hopefully the Edwards bros can hold the middle and open things up for our DEs and LBs.

Did anyone actually watch Clausen this pre-season? I mean really?

He did ok. He was put in with the scrubs and was asked to hand it off about 70% of the time. When he did throw he was accurate - he finally has an OC that designs an offence to his strengths (short/intermediate routes - 'dink and dunk'). Yes he struggled a little under pressure, but most QBs do when defensive players come through basically untouched.

I simply don't get the desire to release him/trade him for a hotdog. He's solid (y'know when the home fans don't fuging boo him) and heaven forbid we might actually have to use him. He probably won't be here next year either.

McClain (and Fua for that matter) on the other hand have zero worth. They've both been outplayed by two UDFAs.

No, I didn't watch Clausen much, I'm not gonna lie... I just can't see much utility in having a guy on the roster that suited up for zero games last season... I certainly don't presume to know more than the coaches and obviously they see more value in Clausen that Mclain, so be it, I'm just curious as to why.

In other words, he thinks McClain was a BUST and wants someone who can be a 3-tech now.

Which undoubtedly means he doesn't believe Fua is a bust, believes that Fua has more potential than McClain, and believes that Fua is better for the team than McClain was.

Whether any of you are smart enough to realize it, this isn't about McClain versus Dwan. It's about McClain versus all other DTs that were on the roster. They clearly believed that McClain was the worst.

funny how a few highlight flashes here and there make people forget the overall garbage body of work.

I really don't think it would be shocking to see Clausen outplayed by a UDFA.

I haven't looked at any "highlights", nor have I forgotten anything. What I said was clear. It's not about MCCLAIN VERSUS DWAN, idiot. It's about McClain versus EVERY OTHER DT on the team.

Who is worse, in your opinion, McClain or Fua, or do you just believe McClain is because he's the one Hurney and Rivera decided to waive? Can you think for yourself, or do you just go with whatever the officials say? Do you have a clue?

How many 3rd QBs do you think actually played for any team last season? If you get that far down the depth chart the team is fuged anyway. Doubt you are going to find many pro bowlers playing the emergency qb position. Clausen is a practice player who knows the offense.

Completely agree, particularly the part about us being fuged if Clausen has to play... Practice is important but line play is too...

Rivera wants to keep 3 QBs. Nothing more, nothing less.

If we cut Clausen with the hope that he would still be a free agent if we were to need him, we could run the risk of losing him to another team and having nobody who has experience with this offense ready in time if our other 2 QBs go down. If you think it's a risk worth taking, then oh well. Rivera doesn't think so. Not sure why people feel the need to say that Clausen isn't worth the spot when really they have a problem with having 3 QBs on the roster.

    • As far as elite/elevate talent QB’s It’s Allen Mahomes Jackson and Burrow that’s it.  Then we have tiers and those can be debated all day Dak is a good QB but I know this board would want him out of Charlotte if he was the QB here. 2 playoff wins in 10 years. Justin Herbert no playoff wins. Threw 4 interceptions in last years playoff game. 23 TD passes last year. 20 the year below and 25 the year before that. This board loves stats without context and these stats aren’t saying they’re much above complimentary  Kyler Murray isn’t good. I’m not sure how he made this list.  Caleb Williams, Trevor Lawrence both benefiting from some real good offensive coaches right now. They’re both complimentary pieces until proven otherwise  I like Jordan Love. Always have. I wanted to draft him but he isn’t a superstar.  CJ Stroud hasn’t been much better than Bryce after his rookie season. After that Bears game year 2 his numbers very similar to Bryce I will say I think Drake Maye is well on his way to becoming the next top tier QB if I had to pick one from this entire list. I’d also say Baker Mayfield is a damn good QB and I’d take him over most of those guys not in the elite category  Now if you want to debate tools and which QB’s possess tools to put them in higher tiers that’s a completely different discussion. Most QB’s on your main list all have those physical tools that will keep you thinking he’ll become the next top tier QB. They’ll sprinkle in a “wow” play or two a game. Bryce will never look that way. Young’s game at its peak will physically always look different and I think that’s where most people struggle when it comes to seeing how Young’s can be successful in the league  All QB’s need a team around them. I think the Bills are failing Josh Allen much like the Panthers did Cam. Beane and McDermott using same blueprint with Bills team. Josh Allen hasn’t had much in terms of WR’s and it’s ultimately costing them when it matters the most
