89 started screaming and cursing at Cam last night

Everyone forgets Cam as a man is just as old as the rookies entering the NFL this year. Also the Dude has never seen loss like this before because he was so talented. I dont like that he panics and throws picks but its just him trying to make plays and put the team on his back. Its not going to happen at this level and everyone has to do there own part.

TBH Smith should know because he was the same way when he was young.

I would have a problem with Smitty tearing into Cam (he gets upset when he's losing, there's no shame in that) except for the fact that he did his Superman after his touchdown. Like really? You just made it 33-7. Maybe wait till it's a 3 possession game before you start celebrating. That rubbed me the wrong way. I'm glad Smitty gave him a piece of his mind.

Yes, "benched" is being used loosely, but all of our other starters were still in there IIRC. I thought I remembered seeing DWill and I know Rivera said Smitty didn't want to come out.

But, Rivera did not say they tried to take him out either. He said "we needed him out there" or "we still wanted him out there... to set an example."

So, if that is the case, then Cam was benched, and I don't think it was for performance obviously, I wanted us to take him out after he got up limping from that jailbreak sack. But, I do think it had something to do with him pouting as well.

I was disappointed seeing Cam on the sidelines at the end of the game instead of being out there with his team taking the ass whoopin' like a man.

Havent you figured it out? He is exactly what many said he was coming out of College, all this kid cares about is playing Superman and being in the spotlight. He isn't a leader, when times get tough he is going to run and put his towel on his head and close his eyes in the Presser

Cam is and has always been a work-in-progress when drafted. He had immaturity surrounding him when he came out of Auburn and I think he has exceeded expectations in this department in keeping his nose clean and not being outspoken or a media lightning rod... very low-key. As for on the field, he also has exceeded expectations with talent and not just being an athletic run-first QB that can't read defenses nor pass. All of that being said, his maturity as a team leader is his glaring weakness.... but he's a 23 year old kid that has done nothing but win since he was in high school. Losing and humility isn't always the easiest thing to accept and takes time to adjust. However, the time of maturation needs to start catching up to Cam or he's going to drown in this grown man's league. The towel on the sideline, pouting, woe-is-me negative energy that he possesses needs to be cut fast. Guys like Smitty, Beason, Gross, DA, Rivera, Chud, etc need to be in Cam's face and positively, yet directly get him in gear.

I have no issue whatsoever with what Smitty did. He's a warrior and has the heart of a champion. Not too many players on this team can get through to Cam properly, but Smith is one of them. I commend him and truly am ready to see how Cam bounces back next week. He'll have an extra 3 days to study what went wrong and a big divisional test against the Falcons. Time for Cam to put on his big boy pants and realize that when you play like complete garbage in primetime at home, you need to shelf the Superman TD celebration and just walk your ass to the sideline.

HUGE PROPS TO STEVE SMITH... This is Jay Cutlers problem... The bears dont have a dog like Steve Smith.... It took a backup CB to speak up.

You guys can love Cam all yall want... He has a special talent but dude will never develop into the QB you guys want him to be if he doesnt grow up and be a professional.

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
