i'm not even all that worried about lynch. i think he'll run all over us, but that's all they have.

we just need to get out ahead of them by more than one TD and then just kick FGs.

seahawks have an offense that can't come back from a real deficit.

we have never been good at it. i really don't understand why now we insist on running it.

I've gotten to the point that I facepalm every time I see that stupid formation. If we never ran it again I wouldn't be upset.

Takes the ball out of our best playmaker's hands and we rarely do anything spectacular.

i guess the only thing that worries me about the seahawks is their defense.

if our offense is clicking, though, it will be more than able to get a decent enough lead that the seahawks can't come back from.

their defense looks kind of stingy against the run. 3ypa and they've only allowed 2 rushing TDs all year, but teams haven't been running on them all that much. 21 carries per game on average so far but they have played teams that just aren't all that good at running the ball and who just don't do it that much so i think a lot of that is just they haven't been challenged much against the run.

The read option works in college for two reasons:

1. All but the very top 10% of college players are far slower than their NFL counterparts.

2. The hash marks in college are farther apart (40' between) and the wide side of the field is much larger, allowing for more room to extend the play. NFL hashmarks are so much closer (18'6" between) to the center of the field that an overload rarely works- it's difficult to go unbalanced, and the read option requires an unbalanced blocking scheme- someone needs to pull.

The read option will not work against the Seachickens- their defense is very fast, even more so than the rest of the league where the read option is quickly becoming the Panthers achilles heel.

Marshawn Lynch gets stronger as the game goes on and is very well known and respected for usually getting more yards late than early in games. Only if they're behind does his running take a back seat, but if they need to kill clock, he's the workhorse that will pound out first down after first down.

for all the fear about lynch, i know he was a TD beast last year but this year he's only gotten into the endzone twice and he is the extent of all their rushing TDs.

he may pile on the yardage but even at that, it's because he's got a poo-ton of carries so far. he hasn't had less than 20 carries in a game, but he's only had over 5 ypa once and that was last week against the rams. also one of his TDs came last week against them, but they had already let 5 other rushing TDs happen prior to that.

against green bay he only got 3.9 ypa (and they are 4.4 ypa on average) and against zona he only got 4.0 ypa.

This one's pretty simple to me... contain Lynch as much as possible. If we hold him to ~120 yards and one TD, that's a victory for our D.

...and, run the ball, run the ball, run the ball. They have good pash rush and excellent DBs, if we can't establish the run, we're screwed.

On the surface most gameplans seem pretty simple. Executing them while preventing the other guys from knocking you off of your gameplan is a bit more complex.

If we do exactly what we want going in we'll win. In reality it'll be somewhere in the middle probably.

I think we'll win but I think it'll be close.

I've never been a big fan of the RO either, but the reality is, it has worked for us. We were more successful Sunday out of the RO than out of more traditional formations, averaging over 7 yards per carry. We keep getting that sort of production and you won't see it go away anytime soon.

After watching all four games and the preseason, I think part of the problem for the defense is the focus on takeaways. Instead of making the tackle when a running back is stopped, most of the defensive backs are only trying to get a takeaway. That lead to the problems defending the running game in all of our games.

that was the sludgy game in 2007 that was a scoreless tie until the fourth quarter right?

also matt moore's first career start iirc. it was something of an upset because the seahawks were cruising to their 700th straight NFC west title and the panthers had lost 5 or 6 of the last 7 games at that point.

Carroll (in todays Seattle paper) saying he's sticking with Wilson for the start Sunday, over Matt Flynn....which means gobs of people wearing NCSU shirts pulling for the 'Hawks.....Hope I'm wrong. Cats are pizzed.....
