Looking For A New Bank

I am currently with Wells Fargo and am shopping around for some banks that are better than what I am being offered. I checked out PNC and Fifth Third and may go with one of those, but if anyone has a place they like, please share. (I live in Belmont, so I am local).

In a nutshell, I am saving up for a down payment on a house and I have an online savings account with Barclays (1 percent interest, which is better than the "physical" banks offer) and am looking for a better offer on checking.

I figured I would ask you experts here.

Try a credit union.

If not I have used Sun Trust and been fairly happy.

Also look for non brick and mortar banks.

IF you can get into USAA that would be the way to go. I was under the impression that everyone in Charlotte (and surrounding areas) all banked with BOFA.

Schwab Bank has a great interest rate (relatively speaking). And it is a non brick and mortar. I may go with them.

Credit Union + USAA here.

Made almost $70 on interest checking from my credit union so far this year. I know it's not much, but it's better than you'd get with a normal bank (unless your account has millions - do some math with Big banks' fees to see what you would need just to break even on interest)

I use USAA mostly for the long term stuff - my kids' 529 college savings plans, IRA, insurance, etc.

BofA bitches. They have ATMs almost everywhere I travel and their online banking tools are fantastic. Viva la Big Corporations!
