Well sure, it's all about money. The penalty is losing a lot of money, not really missing play.

i think it's just funky wording.

iirc, players suspended while on IR don't actually serve their suspension until they are able to be on an active roster.

That's what I thought too Rayzor. Actually missing games has the effect of penalizing the team also (not so much in his case), giving them an incentive to police the locker room.

It has certainly been done before. I can find examples with a quick search....not that it really matters
