NC HS QB ejected for Newton superman touchdown celebration

Flag that all day, sure. Eject him? Get the fug out of here.

I remember when I played in high school, it depended on the refs working. Our two best RBs (we ran the Paul Johnson version of the triple option) would do two different celebrations after they score. One was a REALLY extravagant, choreographed dance (lasted about 10 seconds) and the other was "the matrix" celebration that D-Will and Stew do. Did it in the endzone too. Some refs flagged it, some didn't. Our coach didn't give a poo. He said, "have fun, but don't get ejected. We can deal with a flag on the PAT or the kickoff "

Rules that are designed to target certain players for their swag and stunt the growth of said player's swag are unacceptable. Games are supposed to be fun; if you want a somber atmosphere go to a damn funeral. And "rules are rules" is the dumbest thing I ever heard. If everyone thought like that how would all the bad rules get changed?

At the high school level and below sportsmanship should trump everything else.

Teaching a kid how to have grace and humility in victory and pride and confidence in a loss will do them more good as adults than anything else they will learn in sports at that level.

I generally agree, but that mainly applies to the 95% or so who will never play beyond high school. The actual athletes that excel don't operate on the same plane.

And there is NO better time to teach them that should be on the same plane than high school.

Letting a kid showboat simply because he is being watched by BCS school scouts is not doing him any favors.

The best thing about football at a school level is how it teaches kids to work together as a team. Those skills are invaluable.

Corny dances or celebrations that celebrate themselves, not the team, should be an embarrassment to the coaches and the parents. The lessons are not getting through to the kids.

Team celebrations are also flagged. So not understanding your point.....

If you don't understand why kids should not be doing corny end zone dances, I am afraid this country is worse off than I first thought.

I can't even imagine sitting in the truck with my dad on the way home after doing that at a game. Good lord that would have been a nightmare.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
