Love for lovie? Chicago axed coach

Lovie Smith as DC for me all day.

Turner as OC and Chico stays as HC, I'm fine.

rivera leaving chicago was lovie's idea because rivera wasn't lovie's choice for a DC and the first opportunity he had to move on from rivera he took it.

the problem, aside from lovie wanting someone else, was that the two defensive styles were very different. rivera comes from the jim johnson 4-3 (a very aggressive/attack defense) and lovie comes from the dungy tampa 2 system...which is a bend/don't break, soft cover defense whose goal was to prevent the big play.

their styles didn't mesh.

I know that, just wishful thinking and due to having connections between them. I'd take Lovie and Norv over Sean and Chud anyday.

Lovie went to the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman as his QB. He's a fine coach. Bears f'd up.

Defense got old, Uhrlacher cant stay on the field.

Mentioning Grossman is like mentioning that guy who took the 2000 Ravens to a Super Bowl victory.

I think he was gone in the off season.

Hope Peppers enjoys the rebuilding, guess playing with that great Chicago D didn't work out.

It's a ludicrous scenario, but if Rivera could swing Lovie as DC and Norv as OC it would be pretty fun.

Two Assistant Coaches Rivera was once a subordinate to?

No thanks, this is a guy who the only time he yelled on the field was at his own players for celebrating after kicking the Falcon's butts and telling them to get off their field.

    • Very fair point.  I guess when Bryce get's to play spreadout, that works for him, but Canales won't do that because it's not going to hold up for a 17 game season.   To me, this has always been a make or break year for Bryce.  Year 3, you need to know what you have.  We just don't have a full time, starting NFL QB.  I will hedge that on the fact that he's only 24 years old.  It's a small hedge, maybe just a shrubbery at this point since Bryce has had three full training camps as QB1. I guess I'm struggling with the balance between patience and performance.  My desire is to be patient since he's 24, but he's also had plenty of time to improve.  I just don't want to use send him off for peanuts and watch him reach his potential elsewhere.
    • He’s washed, I would rather play Tremayne and Coker who can also block in the run game
    • Sadly I was right about the blowout loss to the Bills but it was worse than I expected especially on defense.    Packers opened as 11.5 favorites and it’s hard not to expect them to cover. I think the defense will play better but will still get demolished by Jordan Love who is playing at a high level after that performance against the Steelers. This is the type of game we have to actually play keep-away by running the ball but not sure if our offensive line with injuries can do that or keep Bryce from getting pressured to consistently move the football on third downs.     I expect us to keep it close in the first half but Packers pull away in the second and easily cover.
