Tampa Bay Bucs reportedly won't extend Freeman

Could the Bucs be going QB in this draft?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers do not plan on extending quarterback Josh Freeman's contract this offseason, reports Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

Freeman set franchise records for passing yards (4,065) and touchdowns (27) in 2012, but was wildly inconsistent. He showed flashes of brilliance in the Bucs' 6-4 start that had them in the playoff discussion, but his play disintegrated down the stretch, including two four-interception disasters, as the team went 1-5.The four-year pro will play out his rookie contract in the 2013 season as the team determines if he is its quarterback of the future.

The proverbial lame-duck quarterback was drafted before coach Greg Schiano took over, so there isno inherent loyalty involved. The Bucs also want to avoid a crippling financial mistake a la the New York Jets' $40 million contract extension for quarterback Mark Sanchez.

If Freeman's inconsistency continues to outweigh his athleticism and the positives he brings to the game, the Bucs can move on without repercussion. If he rights the ship, they can either sign him to a new contract or place the franciche tag on him next offseason.

So they pull out the same talking point depending on the QB. Where's the article on Matthew Stafford? Shouldn't his contract be up also? Talk about inconsistancy...He spend two years not doing a damn thing, one season where his team is in the play-offs and the next season, 4-13. Now that is some serious inconsistancy.

    • Been here since middle school right when it started around 2003 after the charlotte.com one. Living outside of Carolina it was tough to find good Panthers content, news or analysis. And no one to talk to about it. This place gave me a lot though I don’t often post. In the later days, I particularly Loved PhillyB’s write ups. They were fire. Too bad I go let it go. I appreciate the hell out of @MHS831 @TheSpecialJuan @Jackie Lee and others who have been posting great content and keeping this place worth coming back to. Particularly during the offseason. Appreciate y’all!
    • Nice explanation, but I was just messing with you. Thought that would be obvious. I dont have the energy to keep on trolling. Last season I compared our situation with Bryce as a potential Alex Smith, but what we should be looking for is our version of Mahomes. Some people will read that as one sentence, to me that single sentence is equivalent to a half A4 explanationf of the teams pathway forward.
    • I dont know how much of his salary would come across and how much a trade would cost but I feel Kmet would be the sort of TE Canales and Morgan would like
