When former GM Marty Hurney hired Rivera, he had a list of offensive coordinator candidates in mind along with a list of head coaches. It’s believed that Bengals coordinator Jay Gruden was atop Hurney’s list, but Rivera insisted on Chudzinski instead. Hurney, in a move that may have effectively doomed him, relented and let his new coach pick his own guy.

Chudzinski is widely known as a smart guy, and his Ohio roots will give him a passion for the Browns job they need. But more than one of his former co-workers in Charlotte thought he was coaching to land a head coaching job, rather than using the tools he was given. Can someone explain to me why JR is giving Rivera an unproven coach so much control??? He killed foxy but not Rivera.

Rivera took control after Hurney was fired. Now he's cutting guys without Gettleman's opinion. I'm sick of it.

Unless Rivera himself decides to change his offensive philosophy entirely I think there will still be continuity for Cam. He'll find someone who can run a similar Coryell offense.

See that's the only part that worries me a little.

If Rivera and [new OC here] do not succeed this year we run the risk of giving a third OC to him. I was OK with the change this year because it would have been a total change and then some years of stability again. That seems less likely now.

There is still the chance that Chud coaching out of his ass and not being intelligent with how the offense was run is a large part of the reason we were so behind the 8-ball this year. A new OC might fix that problem and effectively save Rivera's job. How many times did we want to burn Chud in effigy this year?

Nobody saw Chud leaving. And I love all the snarky fugging comments by these guys in the media.

"It was cute for the moment." It was also effective which is one of the reasons why we finished in back to back season with a top 10 offense in TDs per drive and are 4th in TDs per drive over the last two seasons.

This is the type of poo that makes me hate the media. They are eager to pounce. Gantt seems genuinely upset that Rivera did not get fired.

And one last thing, if Gettleman was that concerned about not hiring his own coach, he could have just not taken the fugging job.

I agree with u. His rantings reads more like he's upset with Rivera not be fired than anything else.

I guess what people are mainly trying to get at is that we are keeping Rivera because of the stability . We aren't showing any stability right now because half of the offensive staff is gone. It seems that we would have been better letting Rivera go because now he is a pretty much a lame duck coach with a new GM.
