Dave Gettlman.. meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

I know I will catch some flak for this but I have to be perfectly honest, after watching his presser, im not so sure im sold on Gettleman. First of all, he seems to have the same "avoid high end FAs, only build through the draft" philosphy Hurney had. I was hoping we would have a GM that signs good FAs. We all saw how well "keeping our own worked." We could have signed Vincent Jackson instead of Stewart and solidified a 1-2 punch WR tandem in Smitty and VJax.

I also dont like the idea he plans on keeping a bulk of our front office intact instead of bringing in his own guys, this also concerns me. He also didnt come across as willing to make wholesale changes that this team needs a lot of. Im not so sure he will make the tough decisions when it comes to guys like Gamble, Gross, Beason, DWill etc.

I also dont like the fact he seems to be behind Rivera, I wouldnt be shocked even if we miss the playoffs that Gettleman will fire Rivera. The way he talked about Rivera, it didnt seem like he was in a rush to part ways with him, even if he screws up next season.

All in all, I really cant diatinguish how Gettleman differs from Hurney in any meaningful way. Im sorry, ive learned the hardway with Rivera that actions speak louder than words.

I had set out to quote the OP and pull it apart line by line...then I had a moment of clarity, saw who it came from, and remembered that it's either someone who's just never going to get it or is a troll (which is far more likely).

If someone could watch Gettleman's presser and hear Marty Hurney speaking to them they're beyond my help anyway.

    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
    • She kicked ass. Obviously not the same but it’s an absolute pleasure to see this band live. What a great evening.
