panthers were offering coaching candidates 1 year deals...

I don't see why it makes JR cheap for not throwing out 3 year deals to people that may not be here after one year.

JR, once again, is hedging his bets rather than going all in to win.

Wonder why we keep getting coaches that punt with two minutes left to go down by 6? Cause that's what their owner wants.

It doesn't. Given the situation, it's not that shocking.

Worth remembering that both Hue Jackson and Pat Shurmur were willing to take those offers.

Toub? Don't think we had a realistic shot at him. Reid was a bigger draw.

The only guy I wonder about really being bothered by it is Bobby April.

lol welcome to another throw away season panther fans.

next year we'll hear the rebuilding excuse, followed by the "rome wasnt built in a day" excuse.

this organization is laughable. Rivera should have been fired or committed to. not some ridiculous half attempt to do something.

I'm not ready to buy the "throwaway season" notion without seeing how the roster gets tweaked first.

The notion that Jerry Richardson doesn't care about winning is one of the silliest ideas that gets batted around on this board. Anyone that works with him would tell you that.

I have zero questions about his desire to produce a winning team. I have several when it comes to whether he really knows how.

LOL, wish I could be a fly on the wall in those interviews...

JR: So, what are your plans for 2014? Your expectations?

Candidate: You mean 2013, well, I -

JR: No son, I said 2014.

Candidate: 2013?

JR: SON, I SAYID TWO-THOUSAND, FOURTEEEEEEEN. Do you need a graphical representation?

Candidate: Umm, no sir. But, what about 2013?

JR: What about it? I ain't got no 2013 on my calendar here. Do you?

Candidate: I don't understand.

JR: Betcha like black helmets and redesigned jerseys too. You willing to work on an internship basis?

Candidate: Absolutely not sir, I'm highly qualified for this job and I -

JR: NEXT! (screamed into Bojangles microphone)

as much as it may sound like it, i haven't thrown in the towel on this next season or rivera. i mean he's not my top pick as HC, just like he wasn't when he was hired. he's here, though, at least for this next season and the best thing for the team is for him to have his act together.

i do want to see the gettleman effect on the roster. i think that it will be in better shape heading into next season, even if it doesn't look like it because we lost some big players and have "no-names" brought in.

rivera is going to try to have a winning season, same with the rest of that coaching staff. the question is more about being capable.

I think it'll be tough to not get this team into the playoffs next year with Cam starting to bloom.

agreed. kuechly is a stud who will be even better next year and the light seems like it's gone on for cam. also we have gettleman in charge of personnel so i'm expecting all excuses to be gone next year.

if this team doesn't get into the playoffs or can't even pull off a winning season, it will be obvious that we have the wrong man for the job of HC.

I think the coaching can be a positive, a negative or a neutral on top of the level of talent we have.

Barring our coaching staff being a heavy negative, I think we make it in next year (barring serious Cam injury). Us making the playoffs just means Rivera is not so bad he ruins a good thing. He needs to win a playoff game to at least be a neutral.
