I'm starting to like Lane Johnson a lot.

I see a lot in this guy that makes me think he's a pretty viable option at 14 with Joeckel and Fisher going before him.

He's quick footed, very technically refined and uses his arms very well. He's tall at 6'6" and certainly has the frame to put on additional weight, which could be considered the weakness of his game (he's 302, roughly the same weight Matt Kalil came in at last year around this time) as he can have trouble with aggressive bull rushers.

Oklahoma moved him back and forth from LT and RT over the course of single games while he was there so his experience at both positions also gives him some additional value though he primarily played LT.

He's been shooting up draft boards and he may be my horse in this race in the coming months.

Apparently Johnson ran a 4.67 40 yesterday during a training session for the combine. The kid is an athletic freak at 6-7, 305! He may be a little raw at first but he has all the tools to be a top LT in his career. He may not even make it to us at 14.

Here's the story about the 40: http://boltbeat.com/...ard-dash-today/

Here's actual video:

(He runs between the 1:38-1:47 mark and the 4:20-4:27 mark)

He also recently posted a 37-inch vertical

Still need a guard though, interior play was alot worse than tackle play

We do need a guard but it is alot easier and cheaper to get a good guard in FA than a LT. I view replacements for Gross and Steve Smith as high priority since A)we have options for neither on the roster and B) starting LT's and #1 WR's are expensive and rare in FA. IMO DT, OG, LB and Safety are easier to find cheap starters at in FA so high draft picks should be used elsewhere unless it's a special talent. my 2 cents

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
