Tavon Austin = Percy Harvin

I admittedly haven't watched much of Austin but his vision and ability cut is lethal in space and he makes so many people miss. If he can run crisp clean routes and get separation in the passing game and give us a new wrinkle in the running game and Sproles like production catching out of the backfield and in the slot then he would not be a bad option at 14 but it really depends who is on the board.

One question, would the drafting of Tavon make DeAngelo expendable? I feel like adding him to our roster would boost both our run and passing game and give defenses another thing to game plan for. I remember Rivera a season or two ago saying he wanted a scat-back Sproles time player and Austin could be that guy.

Personally I want a big deep threat receiver like Patterson or someone in the second but Austin could fly up draft charts in the next couple months.

I say roll the dice on austin. We ve lacked great team speed for a while and having an elite guy who can make defense respect the long ball would be a good start. Look at how armanti get ran down punt return and you tell me that's the best returner we have? our team speed needs to get much better. Not to just say he's only good as a return man, lots of smaller guys are making an impact right now. I see austin as a more shifty deshawn jackson. He also fits that sproles/bush mold who can play in space and just creat match-up nightmares. This guy is one big splash play waiting to happen. say yes at 14,because he wont be around in the second...

a few observations:

the dude that made that video did an amazing job, even if the songs he chose sucked.

geno smith stares down receivers badly

Austin is about as close to Steve Smith on a highlight reel that I have seen come out of college. I'm not calling him the next steve, but the way they shake people is very similar, steve just has more power. I'm pretty impressed with that.

    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
    • It is goofy how some people hate Bryce so much that they're flat out lying to try and remain entitled to their pessimism. It's insanity. Most fans are realists and eagerly awaiting the season to see if we get pre- or post-benching Bryce to start the season and how much he is able to do with some young and developing weapons. Many of us understand that these young guys are going to have growing pains on the job as well as the new defense, but the fans with all of the excuses for why Bryce can't be successful are pounding the no excuses drum. Personally, I'd prefer the Keep Pounding drum.
