Panthers on the Decline???

5 teams rising, 5 teams declining. (I shortened it to just the Panthers section for the whole article click on the link above.)

Panthers

If you're in search of the NFL's most happy-go-lucky atmosphere, probably best to stay out of Charlotte. The residue from last year's playoff meltdown to the Cardinals lingers, and Jake Delhomme is widely viewed as a guy operating on borrowed time. The same could be said for head coach John Fox, who witnessed a mass exodus from his staff this past offseason and could be the next out the door if the team disappoints. Joining his counterpart on the other side of the ball (Steve Smith), the team's best defensive player, Julius Peppers, wants to be traded and has been saddled with the unwanted franchise tag. There is plenty of talent left over from last year's 12-4 finish, but we're going to go ahead and guess that the 2009 Panthers will not be the NFL prototype for team chemistry.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but it irks me when people write stuff like this without ever watching a single practice or talking to any of the players.

No this is literally taking a poo in your hand, throwing it at the computer, and hoping someone thinks you're a genius when in all actuality noone will. Look at the 5 teams he picked to be "on the rise" next year. Those same 5 teams who were some of the worst in the league last year won't be getting any better, especially not the horrendous Raiders.

Then conversely his reasons for why our team will apparently suck shows he hasn't even paid the slightest bit of attention to ANYTHING going on with the Panthers. The players are happier than I've seen them in a while, the new coaching staff has brought so much more energy, and John Fox is most certainly not in danger of losing his job despite what a lot of people think they know.

So...lessee if there is a formula here...

Five teams on rise = five teams who have nowhere to go but up

Five teams on decline = five teams who were in the playoff hunt last year and then things didn't go their way, be it in the playoffs or slightly before hand. Who now have unproven factors in key locations and some unanswered questions throughout the offseason.

Sound about right?

    • JJ Jansen not being on this list proves that it is shite.
    • 2025 NFL Rank: Predicting top 100 players for this season - ESPN I'll save you the click- 0 Panthers in the top 100. A couple of former Panthers and a hand full of "draft- What-If's" on the list. If this nothing else, this type of list shows the down stream impact of terrible player personnel and scouting that was in place here for years.
    • Lots of names being added to the cuts. Some names that pop to me for one reason or another (not that the Panthers should sign them, just that they stood out to me)... QB Tyler Huntley (CLE) QB Adrian Martinez (NYJ) QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson (PHI) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Zach Pascal (NYG) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) TE Matt Sokol (BUF) TE Jaheim Bell (NE) TE Tre' McKitty (HOU) C Jim Morrissey (NYG) DL Morgan Fox (ATL) ILB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) OLB Kenny Willekes (PIT) OLB Cam Gill (MIN) CB Zy Alexander (BUF) CB O'Dell Fortune (NYG) CB Dicaprio Bootle (DET) CB Lamar Jackson (ATL) S K'Von Wallace (NYG) S Shiloh Sanders (TB) DB Lewis Cline (PHI) DB Major Burns (CHI) DB Josh Thompson (ATL) K Caden Davis (PIT)   A few former Panthers' on that list (Fox, Hudson, Gill, Bootle, Jackson).
