Blaine Gabbert criticized by former Jaguars assistant

Talk to the current Jacksonville Jaguars coaching staff, and they sound optimistic about quarterback Blaine Gabbert. They aren't giving up on him, although they aren't exactly counting on Gabbert to start yet either.

Talk to former Jaguars coaches, and you might get a different response.

"Nothing's ever his fault," one former Jaguars assistant told Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports.

How bad was it? The young quarterback is known by the name "Blame Gabbert" inside the Jaguars' facility. Gabbert's on-field performance has enough concerns. It's not a great sign that Silver says there also are issues with Gabbert's intangibles.

This is not a great draft class for quarterbacks, and the free-agent class is even worse. But we expect the Jaguars to be aggressive loading up on the position.

"Don't be surprised at anything we may or may not do," one "high-ranking" Jaguars source told Silver. "There are no options off the table."

Gabbert remains one of the options. But he's going to face an uphill battle to remain the best option this year, much less in 2014.

Oh it was certainly more than just one. Idiocy ran quite rampant at that time.

The weeks leading up to the 2011 draft and all the way through game 1 were abysmal for the huddle.

The primary impression I remember having about Gabbert pre-draft was that he looked nervous and skittish about contact. Even when just doing drills, he could be rattled.

He seemed to have a pretty solid grasp on the mental aspects of the game, but the confidence thing was a definite red flag. I remember wondering "What's he gonna do when a 300 pound DE is bearing down on him?"

I remember the day Andrew Luck decided to stay at Stanford back in 2011 while I was watching ESPN. I was bummed but then Todd McShay started talking about this guy Blaine Gabbert. He was slobbering him like a sorority chick in a frat house so I watched some video on him and basically raged everytime someone would talk about how Gabbert was the best QB in the draft. Guy never possessed anything above average passing skills and looked stupid in the pocket. I still to this day think McShay was either Gabbert's boy toy or was paid to say these things about him, otherwise it just proves McShay has no clue what he's talking about.

My observation of Gabbert was, those in the media who didn't get Luck in 2011 draft was going out of their way to paint him into an adequate QB because they choose him over Cam. I also believe that they went out of their way to morph Blaine into the image of Cam, while Cam was painted into the image of a QB who needed a lot of work and immature, which was really Blaine.

I always felt he was a kid who bit off more than he could chew because of his ego and nothing was ever his fault.. Cam was labeled as being immature based on much, much less but Blaine could say and do

Whatever he wanted and got away with it.

Always felt and stated on this site, that Blaine was getting a free ride because folks like Mayock wanted a Luck replacement. Other QBs like Cam, Jake, Dalton, Colin, and Tyrod had to prove themselves.
